JD97+97–99 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 9/30/2021 The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon continues to show brilliantly. (I rated it 97–100 from barrel last year.) It has a quintessential Cabernet nose of pure crème de cassis, crushed stone, lead pencil, graphite, and tobacco that gains depth and richness with time in the glass. Deep, full-bodied, rich, and incredibly textured, yet still fresh, light on its feet, and beautifully balanced, this gorgeous Cabernet shows what’s possible with the variety from Paso Robles. (Jeb Dunnuck)VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2023 The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Patrimony lifts from the glass with a classic bouquet of black currant, lifting hints of rosemary, graphite and dusty sage. It’s silky, nearly creamy in feel, with depths of ripe dark red fruit and sweet spice that swirl throughout. A web of fine-grained tannins engulfs the palate. While powerful and structured, the impact is well-measured, leaving the senses clenched in youthful poise as pretty inner florals slowly fade. What a beauty, and with such an amazingly bright future. (Eric Guido)RP95+95–97 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Mar 2022 The 2019 Patrimony is fresh and minerally at this stage. Still in barrel, it’s made entirely of free-run Cabernet Sauvignon and will be aged for 30 months in 100% new French oak. Deep ruby-purple, it’s scented of blueberry liqueur, thyme, mint chocolate and dried herbs with savory wafts of soy sauce. The full-bodied palate is grainy and fresh, with a long, spicy finish. It has the detail and balance to allow it to pick up complexity as it continues along its evolution toward bottling. (Erin Brooks)
RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 9th Mar 2023 Medium ruby, the 2019 Pinot Noir Sisters has a delicate perfume of raspberries, rhubarb, tar, orange peel and tea leaves with touches of flint. The light-bodied palate is powdery and fresh with fragrant floral character and a long finish. (Erin Brooks)JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, August 9, 2022 This is a solid pinot with so much strawberry and tangerine character that it’s hard to put down. The tannins are very solid and slightly chewy, but I think this will come together beautifully. Try after 2024.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Aug 31, 2022 A ripe, lush style, with waves of warmed plum sauce, cassis, Christmas pudding and melted black licorice rolling through, inlaid with singed tobacco, menthol and loam hints along the way. For fans of the big style. Drink now through 2032. 9,680 cases made. (James Molesworth)JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/10/2022 The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon offers more plum and cassis fruits as well as scorched earth, camphor, and chocolate aromatics. Rich, full-bodied, and mouth-filling, it has ripe, polished tannins, terrific overall balance, and a great finish. (Jeb Dunnuck)JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021 Aromas of dark plums, dark chocolate, orange zest, sage and spice box. Full-bodied with chewy tannins. Rich, with fruity and dusty character and a firm finish. Better from 2023.RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022 A blend of fruit from Mount Veeder and the broader Napa Valley AVA, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cab, matured 22 months in 85% new French oak. The wood lends plenty of cedary notes, but there’s also ample cassis, blackberry and plum. In the mouth, this is full-bodied and velvety, without being overly rich or concentrated, with dark chocolate nuances creeping in on the finish.
WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2022 The Port, with its luscious texture and black fruits, is impressive and dense. Black fruits are given richness and spice by the spirit and the raisin flavors. With its light structure, it is ready to drink. (Roger Voss)SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2022 Inviting, with plum cake and steeped raisin and plum notes laced with licorice snap and fruitcake accents. There’s a solid spine for support, but this is approachable now. Try decanting or even giving a touch more time in the cellar. Drink now through 2026. 50,000 cases made, 25,000 cases imported. (James Molesworth)WS9191 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 10/22 A fresh, schist-driven LBV, this wine’s tannins are accommodating in their softness, but still buzzing with mineral tension and energy. The cherry fruit coasts past the tannins, sweet and pleasing with the acidity of sheep’s milk cheeses.RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 4th Aug 2022 The 2017 Late Bottled Vintage Port is a field blend bottled in 2022 with a bar-top cork and 113 grams per liter of residual sugar after six years in cask. (There will be no 2016 Graham’s LBV.) Elegant in the mid-palate (unlike its sibling, the Dow’s), this also has good structure, but it is a much better balanced wine. The big fruit of this fine vintage shines through, rendering this rather delicious. This has persistence and focus, plus all that tasty fruit. You can’t go wrong. (Mark Squires)
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2023 Impressive for the generous, plump flavors and the restraint and elegance of the candied ginger peel, briny preserved lemon, peppery white flower and buttery peach pastry flavors on a plush frame. Reveals a juicy thread of acidity. Drink now. 1,638 cases made. (MaryAnn Worobiec)RP92+92–94 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2023 Tasted as a tank sample prior to bottling, the barrel-fermented 2021 Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard displays a full-bodied, rich, custardy mouthfeel that easily carries the bold flavors of pineapple, white peach and citrus. It’s a blend of several blocks and sees approximately 60% new French oak. (Joe Czerwinski)
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2019 Lithe and vibrant, this graceful Champagne is driven by well-knit, racy acidity, carrying flavors of ripe black cherry, grated ginger, toast point and mineral on the satiny mousse. Drink now through 2022. 222,500 cases made, 29,000 cases imported.WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2015 The quality of this nonvintage wine from Piper-Hedsieck is a sign of the increasing quality of the range as a whole. It’s a wine that hovers comfortably between freshness and maturity, between a soft dosage and crisp fresh apples. This bottling is ready to drink.RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Dec 2008 Ripe pears, crisp green apples and flowers emerge from Piper-Heidsieck’s NV Brut Cuvée. This medium-bodied non-vintage Champagne offers excellent persistence and a long, clean finish. It is a very solid effort at this level. The Brut Cuvée is 55% Pinot Noir, 30% Pinot Meunier and 15% Chardonnay. This is lot L070921 12253, disgorged December, 2007. Anticipated maturity: 2008–2010.ST8888 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2005 Medium straw. Light gold, with a strong mousse. Smoky, rich and floral on the nose, with suggestions of orange peel, pear and jasmine. Nicely concentrated and moderately weighty, with flavors of lemon cream and buttered toast. Quite long, with the butter and lemon notes resonating.WS8686 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2006 Simple, ripe and smooth, this is a gentle, soft style of Champagne for parties.
WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2022 This deep and potentially ageworthy blend from both valley and hillside sites is a baritone, showing deep bass notes of black currant, toasted oak and espresso on a great structure of fine-grained tannins and a full body. Best 2026–2036. (Jim Gordon)RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022 Lavishly fruited, with almost sweet, jammy flavors of black cherries, dried spices and vanilla, Vineyard 29’s 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Cru includes fruit from 14 vineyards and is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec. Full-bodied and soft, it finishes long, plush and cedary. (Joe Czerwinski)VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022 The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Cru (Napa Valley) is a fabulous value. A burst of dark red cherry, plum, mocha, spice and licorice gives the Cru its exuberant, open-knit personality. Most of the fruit in the blend is from sites in St. Helena. Once again, Vineyard 29 delivers with their Cru Cabernet Sauvignon. (Antonio Galloni)
WE9898 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2022 Aromas of rose petal, dark spice, woodland berries and camphor form the nose on this fragrant, elegant wine. Loaded with finesse, the linear, savory palate features red cherry, orange zest, star anise and black tea alongside tightly wound, fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity keeps it impeccably balanced. It’s still youthfully austere, with fantastic aging potential. Drink 2026–2041. (Kerin O’Keefe)RP97+97+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Jan 2022 From a benchmark vintage, the Biondi-Santi 2016 Brunello di Montalcino reveals a gorgeous appearance with medium concentration highlighted by shiny hues of garnet and dark ruby. The first thing you notice is the compact dark fruit and rather robust textural fiber and power presented here. You almost bite into this wine, and you taste some fine grain linked to the young tannins. That, with the fresh acidity that is the hallmark signature of this estate, guarantees long cellar aging, and I would put my money on this vintage for long-long-term longevity. The fruit is compact and supple with dried cherry, blue flower, iron ore and candied orange peel. There is tobacco, balsam herb and gardening soil in a supporting role, and the wine is beautifully fleshed out but also rich in this balanced growing season. It surely needs more time to come together with pinpoint precision, but the wine’s elegance is a certainty. (Monica Larner)VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021 The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is a dark stallion of a wine that showcases both the depth and radiance of the vintage. At first, its bouquet is dark and earthy, yet quickly blossoms into an enthralling mix of musky red currants, wild peppery herbs, dusty rose and worn leather. While satiny in feel, it’s also sleek and lively, with a vibrant burst of sweet and sour citrus that enlivens its notes of tart cranberry and pomegranate, all wound tightly in a web of saline-minerals. Violet and lavender tones arch across the palate over a core of silky tannins that nicely frame the experience, as a hint of balsamic spice slowly tapers off. The 2016 is one of the most deep and balanced Brunellos that I’ve ever experienced from Biondi Santi. If this is the Annata, then I can only imagine what the Riserva might bring to the table. Something of note is that in 2016, production was down by 15% following the abundant 2015 vintage and the dry conditions in the early part of the season. (Eric Guido)
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, October 5, 2021 This is a fantastic Chianti Classico with so much complexity and intensity. Cherry, chocolate, hazelnut and wet earth with some black truffle. It’s medium-bodied with depth of fruit and fantastic texture and length. Don’t miss this. Sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Unfiltered. Very drinkable now, but one for the cellar.WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2022 Juicy and delicious, this opens with aromas of iris, rose, dried aromatic herbs and wild berries. Smooth and medium-bodied, the palate features succulent Marasca cherry, ripe raspberry, ground clove and crushed mint set against taut, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Drink 2023–2028. (Kerin O’Keefe)RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 7th Oct 2021 This is such a pretty wine and such an absolute pleasure to drink, thanks to its intrinsic simplicity and brightness. The Castello dei Rampolla 2019 Chianti Classico gives us a textbook rendition of Tuscany’s Sangiovese grape, with the extra brightness, sharpness and crisp acidity that comes naturally. This wine reveals a profoundly authentic character with wild berry, lavender, garden soil and crushed aspirin. You could drink it now or possibly stretch its drinking window to the 10-year mark.VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2021 The 2019 Chianti Classico is an explosion of aromas and flavors. Freshly cut, flowers and red/purplish fruit abound. A classic example of the year, Rampolla’s Chianti Classico is flat-out gorgeous and one of the best recent editions I can remember tasting. The 2019 is a blend of Sangiovese (aged in cask) plus dollops of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon (done in French oak).SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2022 An inviting red, with strawberry, cherry, rose hip and floral aromas and flavors allied to an elegant frame. Features a firm backbone of tannins and lively acidity, which provide support, and lingers with bright fruit and a crisp feel. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2030. 3,000 cases made, 1,250 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2021 Blended with 13% Merlot and smaller amounts of Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, this is a focused and youthfully grippy wine, showing a fervor of succulent red- and black-currant and licorice. Thick, rich and intensely structured, it possesses a mineral-like earthiness of crushed rock and enduring structure.RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th Nov 2020 Composed of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District charges out of the gate with exuberant scents of boysenberries, blackcurrant cordial and warm black plums plus touches of bay leaves, damp soil, pencil shavings and sandalwood. The medium to full-bodied palate is bold, expressive and open for business with bags of juicy black fruit flavors and a velvety texture, finishing with an earthy kick and a burst of freshness. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021 The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap District) is another terrific wine in this range. Inky blue fruit, lavender, spice, licorice and new leather all jump out of the glass. Bright acids give the 2018 striking energy that drives through to the long, beautifully persistent finish. Hints of mocha, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco linger. (Antonio Galloni)JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/27/2021 Readers looking for a classic Cabernet Sauvignon that demonstrates the style of this great vintage should check out the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon from Cliff Lede Vineyards. Based on 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, and the balance Malbec and Cabernet Franc, it reveals a deep purple color as well as a classic nose of cassis, blueberries, toasted spices, dried tobacco, and chocolate. Showing the vintage’s style on the palate with its medium to full-bodied richness and elegant seamless style, it can be drunk today or cellared for 10–15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021 Ripe blackcurrants and blackberries, framed with notes of sweet vanilla, eucalyptus and chocolate. Full-bodied, soft and mellow. Polished tannins and a ripe fruit core with a long finish. Chewy at the end, with a cola undertone. Better from 2023.RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jul 2022 Deep ruby-purple, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley offers lush blackcurrants and black cherries with touches of eucalyptus, milk chocolate, dried thyme and vanilla bean on the nose. The medium-bodied palate is soft and plush, with concentrated, chocolaty fruits and a long, spicy finish. (Erin Brooks)JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/10/2022 A good value, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley has plenty of classic darker cassis and currant-like fruits as well as medium to full body, hints of spicy oak and tobacco, silky tannins, and outstanding length. This charming, balanced, delicious 2019 should be drunk over the coming decade. 1800 cases. (Jeb Dunnuck)SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022 Shows cherry and plum paste notes allied to a red licorice spine, with a lightly roasted apple wood note framing the juicy finish. Drink now through 2026. 1,800 cases made. (James Molesworth)
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2015 The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Casey’s Lakeview is similarly inky bluish/purple to the rim. Tasting like blood, this wine is dense and rich with lots of chocolate, espresso, earth and spice. It is deep, full-bodied, and again, a masculine style of wine that needs at least 4–5 years of cellaring and should keep for 25 or more years.VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2015 Darker tonalities of fruit along with distinctly savory undertones are two of the signatures in the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Casey’s Lakeview Vineyard. Rich, ample and powerful, the Casey’s Lakeview offers notable richness to fill out its broad-shouldered frame. Hints of lavender and mint add nuance in a virile Cabernet Sauvignon that needs at least a few years to fully come together.
RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 25th Aug 2022 The 2020 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese opens with an intense bouquet of super ripe and concentrated, healthy shriveled raisins and overripe Riesling berries with very fine slate and flinty notes in the background. On the palate, the Zeltinger Auslese is clear, precise and crystalline, showing concentrated, saline and savory rather than sweet fruit brought to the dance by this delicate, crystal clear and mouth-watering acidity that make this a beautiful, already digestible Auslese whose bouquet and taste are aromatically two different worlds but logical. The fruit was shriveled in perfect condition, and the juice that came out reflects exactly this: freshness, precision and perfect ripeness. A fabulous Auslese from the "neighboring" Sonnenuhr. 7% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 17 21 in July 2022. (Stephan Reinhardt)
JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/22/2021 Moving to the reds, the 2019 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley offers a medium ruby/purple hue to go with a beautiful perfume of mulberries, black cherries, Asian spices, and roasted herbs. Playing in the medium-bodied end of the spectrum, it still brings plenty of fruit, with a great mid-palate and outstanding length on the finish. It’s common in 2019 for the Russian River Valley Pinots to show a beautiful sense of freshness and elegance, and this wine delivers those qualities in spades. It can be drunk any time over the coming 7–8 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 4th Feb 2021 Medium ruby-purple, the 2019 Pinot Noir opens with broody cranberries and blackberries with touches of earth and charcuterie. The medium-bodied palate is a bit brighter than the nose would lead you to believe, with a grainy, fresh frame and gregarious, spicy fruits. It’s a pretty expression that combines powerful fruit with a lighter frame than might be expected from the Russian River Valley. 7,379 cases produced.JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, January 14, 2022 Pretty aromas of red cherries, ripe wild strawberries and rooibos tea. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and well-balanced acidity that keeps the sweet red and black-cherry character going throughout. Added notes of tobacco and vanilla stick come in. Drink now.VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021 The 2019 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) is super-expressive right out of the gate. Inky red/purplish berry fruit, lavender, spice and rose petal meld together. Supple and fruity, with tons of charm, the Russian River Pinot has a ton to offer. I would prefer to cellar it for a year or two, as the tannins need time to settle down.
