RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Dec 2022 I can’t get enough of the 2021 Sauvignon Blanc O Sole Mio Two Wolves Vineyard from Paul Lato. It’s reminiscent of a Bordeaux Blanc with the aromatics turned way up: white peaches and kiwi are complemented by tones of acacia, fresh green herbs and beeswax. The medium-bodied palate is satiny and mouth coating with seamless acidity and generous flavor layers. It’s got the bass, mid and treble to drink well on its own or pair with a wide range of dishes at the table. This impressive Sauvignon Blanc was grown by Alecia Moore at Two Wolves in Santa Ynez from fruit planted in 2015. It was matured for eight months in concrete, stainless and neutral oak vessels, and 250 cases were made. (Erin Brooks)JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/29/2022 I love Paul’s Sauvignon Blanc, and his 2021 O Sole Mio Sauvignon Blanc Two Wolves Vineyard is a winner, offering a clean, crisp bouquet of white grapefruit, crushed citrus, white flowers, and honeyed minerality. Beautifully balanced, medium-bodied, and textured, with bright, vibrant acidity, it’s a brilliant effort that will be about as versatile as they come on the dinner table. I would drink bottles over the coming couple of years while the fruit is vibrant and fresh, yet I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see this have an interesting evolution over the coming decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2022 The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Wolves Vineyard O Sole Mio Two is quite dense and powerful. Lemon confit, dried flower, chamomile and spice are dialed up. Readers will find a serious Sauvignon Blanc that will drink best at the dinner table. Vinification and aging in concrete, where the lees remain in suspension, give the wine much of its textural depth. (Antonio Galloni)
RP92+92–94 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Mar 2022 The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a barrel sample of free-run Cabernet Sauvignon (75%) and Petit Verdot (25%), matured for 16 months in 50% new oak. Still youthfully coiled, it hints at blueberry fruit with swirls of graphite, soy sauce and exotic spices. The medium-bodied palate is velvety in texture, savory in character and finishes with uplifting acidity. This is due to be bottled in May 2022. (Erin Brooks)
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Mar 2022 Deep ruby-purple, the 2020 Pessimist is a blend of 62% Petite Sirah, 18% Syrah, 18% Zinfandel and 2% Lagrein, matured for 10 months in 60% new French oak. It’s scented of black cherries with touches of purple flowers, graphite and grilled meats, and the medium-bodied palate is grainy and fresh with a long, perfumed finish. This offers fantastic quality for the price. (Erin Brooks)JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 9/30/2021 Always a Petite Sirah-dominated wine, the 2020 Pessimist sports an inky purple color as well as a great, full-bodied style carrying wonderful blue fruits, spring flowers, spice, and vanilla aromas and flavors. It’s textured, has ripe tannins, loads of fruit, and is about as sexy and gulpable as they come. It’s one heck of a steakhouse red to enjoy over the coming 2–4 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022 Dark purple. Oak-spiced black and blue fruit, mocha and floral qualities on the nose. Broad and supple in texture, offering pliant blackberry, kirsch, vanilla and salty olive flavors that deepen steadily through the midpalate. Finishes long, smooth and spicy, with even tannins and resonating smokiness. 50% new French oak. (Josh Raynolds)
RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Sep 2017 Blended of 60% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah, the medium to deep garnet colored 2015 Cote a Cote has a wonderfully vibrant perfume of red roses, red cherries and cinnamon stick over nuances of mulberries, vanilla pod, garrigue, dried lavender and white pepper. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and oh-so-decadent, it completely fills the palate with seductive kirsch and spicy layers, supported by firm yet velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with epic length. Bravo!VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2017 Deep brilliant ruby. An assertively perfumed bouquet evokes fresh black and blue fruits, Moroccan spices, vanilla and smoky minerals, while a suave floral pastille accent builds in the glass. Deeply concentrated yet surprisingly lively on the palate, offering sweet black raspberry, boysenberry, spicecake and mocha flavors that unfold slowly, picking up licorice and vanilla notes on the back half. Shows outstanding clarity and thrust on a supple, strikingly long finish shaped by smooth, building tannins.
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2022 The 2020 Space Cadet is the star in this range from Paul Lato. Silky and aromatic, the 2020 is hauntingly beautiful from the get-go. Inky red/purplish fruit, sage, cedar, tobacco, incense and dried flowers are some of the many notes that race across the palate. All the elements are so well balanced. Space Cadet is mostly Syrah and some Grenache, but the Grenache really seems to drive the profile today. (Antonio Galloni)JD95+95+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/29/2022 A 65/35 split of Syrah and Grenache from the Bien Nacido and Larner vineyards, the 2020 Space Cadet reveals an almost opaque ruby/purple hue to go with a rocking nose of red, blue, and black fruits as well as ground pepper, violets, and some gamey, meaty nuances. It’s full-bodied on the palate, has a wealth of fruit, plenty of tannins, and a great finish. It’s going to benefit from a year or two in the cellar and drink brilliantly over the following decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Dec 2022 The 2020 Space Cadet comes from 20- to 30-year-old vines at Bien Nacido and Larner vineyards and is a blend of 65% Syrah and 35% Grenache. It was matured in 57% new French oak and concrete eggs for 22 months. Medium ruby-purple, it’s reticent then floral, unfolding to violet, powdered sugar, black raspberries and cherries. The full-bodied palate is chalky with powerful, ripe fruit, rounded acidity and a long finish with spicy accents. 144 cases were made. (Erin Brooks)
JD9898 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 9/1/2020 Another magical wine, the 2018 Fracture is based on 100% Syrah brought up in new and used French oak. Deep purple-hued, with beautiful notes of crème de cassis, blackberries, vanilla bean, toasted spices, white flowers, and a hints of charcuterie, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, perfectly integrated oak, a rounded, lush mouthfeel, and a great finish. This unabashedly Paso Robles Syrah brings loads of fruit yet stays balanced, elegant, and is simply a thrill to drink. (Jeb Dunnuck)VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2020 Youthful purple. Heady, spice-accented aromas of blackberry, blueberry cherry liqueur and pungent flowers show excellent clarity and energetic lift. Sappy and penetrating on the palate, displaying sharply defined black/blue fruit, violet pastille, cola and exotic spice flavors that turn livelier as the wine opens up. Finishes extremely long, smoky and minerally, with powerful, spicy thrust, a repeating floral note and gently chewy, polished tannins.RP94+94–96+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 6th Feb 2020 A barrel sample of 100% Syrah aging in 65% new French oak, the deep purple-black colored 2018 Fracture has a nose of tar, loamy earth, grilled meats, roasted lamb, rosemary and thyme with loads of violet perfume, mint chocolate and coffee bean aromas — this is already incredibly layered. It’s full-bodied and silky, slowly unfurling to spicy, floral-tinged blue fruits. It has an excellent frame with plush tannins and incredibly surprising freshness, finishing very long and very dense. Around 2,500 cases will be made.
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Dec 2022 The 2020 Fundamental Cabernet Sauvignon has a medium to deep ruby color and scents of baked cherries, thyme, milk chocolate and potpourri. The palate is full-bodied yet light on its feet, with lots of refreshing acidity, an alluring, supple texture and long, perfumed finish. Enjoy this easy-drinking Cabernet over the next year or two. (Erin Brooks)VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2022 The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is fabulous. Readers looking for an affordable Cabernet will flip out over the quality and value here. Ripe dark cherry fruit, plum, spice, mocha and licorice are all dialed up in this succulent, tasty Cabernet from Joey Tensley. (Antonio Galloni)
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Dec 2022 Matured mainly in stainless steel and amphorae, the 2021 Viognier has a delicate perfume of fresh quince, jasmine and almonds. The medium-bodied palate is fresh, gently rounded and layered with detailed fruits and a very long, gently nutty finish. Neither lean nor tropical, it strikes a fine balance that makes it ideal for the table. (Erin Brooks)JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 9/26/2022 Looking first at the 2021 Viognier Central Coast (which is released under the Central Coast label but nevertheless comes all from the estate in Edna Valley), it has a vivid gold hue as well as a great nose of crushed citrus, honeysuckle, and assorted white flower and acacia notes. Medium-bodied, seamless, and elegant, with just a kiss of background toast and brioche, it’s a terrific expression of the variety and well worth seeking out. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2022 The 2021 White Blend, a blend of Albariño, Chardonnay, Viognier and Pinot Gris, has intense aromas of peach, lemongrass, fresh citrus, honey and flint, opening to new aromatic nuances with each return to the glass. The medium-bodied palate is bursting with perfumed fruit, loaded with juicy acidity, and it finishes with a touch of anchoring texture. It’s a delicious yet serious white with alluring generosity that keeps you coming back for more. (Erin Brooks)JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, November 7, 2022 Really aromatic nose with lots of viognier perfume that gives it a floral, gingery note with lychee, citrus and nectarines to the nose. Medium-bodied and bone-dry on the palate with a crisp and fresh acidity. Chardonnay, albarino, viognier and pinot gris. Drink now. (James Suckling)
JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - October 31, 2019 Slightly lighter colored, the 2017 Pinot Noir Los Alamos Vineyard comes from sandy soils and was 80% destemmed and brought up in 10% new French oak. Beautiful rose petal and spring flower notes as well as hints of sweet strawberry and cherry all flow to an ethereal, medium-bodied, silky Pinot Noir that has ultra-fine tannins, perfect balance, and a beautiful finish. It’s a fabulous effort that relies more on finesse, elegance, and purity than power and richness. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th Sep 2019 The 2017 Pinot Noir Los Alamos Vineyard has a pale to medium ruby color and classic nose of woodsmoke, cola, cranberry, rhubarb, wild blackberries, oolong tea, dried strawberry and amaro. It’s light to medium-bodied, with ripe, spicy fruits, a beautiful silky texture and supporting frame of juicy acidity with grainy tannins and a very long, spicy finish. 447 cases produced.WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2019 Candied cherry, mint leaves, thyme-flecked earth and a hint of toasted wood show on the nose of this bottling. The palate is fresh and yet savory, showing roasted cranberry and raspberry alongside wild tarragon and sagebrush flavors.VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2019 The 2017 Pinot Noir Los Alamos Vineyard is a gorgeous wine that is also very expressive of this site. Light, airy and beautifully perfumed, with exquisite finesse to boot, the 2017 is a real winner. The 10–15% whole clusters add aromatic nuance without marking the wine to a significant degree. This is an especially ethereal, but very pretty, wine from Gavin Chanin. Dried cherry, sweet tobacco, mint and dried flowers grace the silky, inviting finish.
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Dec 2022 Pale ruby, the 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills offers fragrant scents of cranberry, forest floor and tar, with ringing notes of violet and aniseed. The medium-bodied palate features just-ripe, floral red fruits and abundant Angostura-like accents. It has fine, powdery, tannins and bursts of mouthwatering acidity that call you in for another sip on the long, flavorful finish. This detailed, layered Pinot Noir way overdelivers for its appellation-wide status. (Erin Brooks)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Dec 2022 Medium ruby, the 2021 Fundamental Pinot Noir has inviting aromas of cranberry sauce, orange peel, licorice and loads of amaro-like accents. Medium-bodied, it’s silky and refreshing with a deep core of berry fruit and a long, layered finish. This is a lovely Pinot Noir with a notable quality-to-price ratio! (Erin Brooks)
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Aug 2015 Probably the longest-lived wine in the vintage from Santa Barbara, Jonata’s 630-case 2012 El Desafio de Jonata checks in as a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc, 15% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot that saw 80% new French oak. It reveals a masculine, meaty, structured personality as well as rockin’ notes of blackcurrants, wood smoke, lead pencil shavings and crushed rock. Full-bodied, balanced and with building tannic grip, it still shows the suppleness of the vintage, but needs 2–3 years to even start to be drinkable. It will have 2–3 decades of longevity.VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2015 The Cabernet Sauvignon-based 2012 El Desafio de Jonata graces the palate with its sensual personality. Raspberry jam, pomegranate, leather, smoke, spice and tobacco all blossom in the glass. Big, rich and inviting, the 2012 boasts superb intensity and resonance, although it doesn’t quite have the visceral thrill of the very best wines in this range. Shades of rose petal and mint add the closing shades of nuance. The 2012 was aged in French oak, 80% new.
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Aug 2015 A great wine, the 2012 Todos Proprietary Red Wine offers terrific notes of black and red raspberry fruits, toasted bread and spice. As it sat in the glass, more classic Syrah olive, bacon and a touch of violet all developed. Medium to full-bodied, juicy, mouthfilling and loaded with sweet fruit, it doesn’t skimp on structure and will have at least a decade of longevity. Think of this as a mini-La Sangre. The blend here is 75% Syrah with 7% each of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance a mix of varieties.VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2015 The 2012 Todos, Jonata’s Syrah-based blend, is once again delicious. A touch of appassimento gives the 2012 an extra kick of flavor and texture intensity. Sweet cherry, raspberry jam, spice, mint and licorice notes abound in this racy, bold red. Todos is Jonata’s least expensive red wine, but it competes quite favorable with the higher-end bottlings. The 2012 was aged mostly in larger-format French oak barrels, with 40% new wood.
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Aug 2015 A blend of 40% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache and 30% Syrah, the 2013 Cote a Cote is a classic Rhone blend from Paso that has lots of blackberry, cassis, ground pepper and damp earth aromatics, full-bodied richness and both good acidity and tannic grip. Showing more complex floral characteristics and chalky minerality with time in the glass, it can be enjoyed now or cellared for a decade.VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2015 Opaque ruby. A complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red fruits, smoky Indian spices, vanilla and minerals. Concentrated but lithe on the palate, offering intense raspberry and bitter cherry flavors underscored by a suave floral note. The spicy quality comes back emphatically on a long, sweet finish framed by slow-building, harmonious tannins.
