RP91+91–93 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th May 2021 The 2020 Olivier Blanc sings of fresh Bosc pears, yellow apples and waxed lemons, plus hints of wet slate and fennel seed. The medium-bodied palate is clean, crisp and wonderfully refreshing, offering bags of citrus and apple-inspired flavors with a spicy kick on the finish. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Dec 2022 I can’t get enough of the 2021 Sauvignon Blanc O Sole Mio Two Wolves Vineyard from Paul Lato. It’s reminiscent of a Bordeaux Blanc with the aromatics turned way up: white peaches and kiwi are complemented by tones of acacia, fresh green herbs and beeswax. The medium-bodied palate is satiny and mouth coating with seamless acidity and generous flavor layers. It’s got the bass, mid and treble to drink well on its own or pair with a wide range of dishes at the table. This impressive Sauvignon Blanc was grown by Alecia Moore at Two Wolves in Santa Ynez from fruit planted in 2015. It was matured for eight months in concrete, stainless and neutral oak vessels, and 250 cases were made. (Erin Brooks)JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/29/2022 I love Paul’s Sauvignon Blanc, and his 2021 O Sole Mio Sauvignon Blanc Two Wolves Vineyard is a winner, offering a clean, crisp bouquet of white grapefruit, crushed citrus, white flowers, and honeyed minerality. Beautifully balanced, medium-bodied, and textured, with bright, vibrant acidity, it’s a brilliant effort that will be about as versatile as they come on the dinner table. I would drink bottles over the coming couple of years while the fruit is vibrant and fresh, yet I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see this have an interesting evolution over the coming decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2022 The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Wolves Vineyard O Sole Mio Two is quite dense and powerful. Lemon confit, dried flower, chamomile and spice are dialed up. Readers will find a serious Sauvignon Blanc that will drink best at the dinner table. Vinification and aging in concrete, where the lees remain in suspension, give the wine much of its textural depth. (Antonio Galloni)
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 25th Aug 2022 The 2020 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett offers a discreet and sublime, complex and very elegant and slightly flinty nose with a coolish and very delicate expression of stewed apricots but also some greenish berries, whereas the first stony character remains. This irresistible and noble bouquet leads to a round and lush yet also refined and savory palate, with coolish apricot flavors on the long and sustainably salty finish that is firmly structured but elegant and highly stimulating. This is a superb, very elegant and complex, sustainably structured Sonnenuhr. This is already a great pleasure to drink, but you can keep this Kabinett for more than three decades easily. 8% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 05 22 in July 2022. (Stephan Reinhardt)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022 Although not labeled as such, Beringer’s Private Reserve Chardonnay has been sourced for decades from the Gamble Ranch in Oakville. Planted around 1976 to Clone 4, the grapes are picked ripe and barrel fermented at relatively warm temperatures to build mouthfeel. The 2020 Chardonnay Private Reserve (along with all the other white varieties) was picked prior to any risk of smoke taint. Marked by scents of mango, guava and pineapple, it doesn’t come across as that oaky, despite being barrel fermented and aged in approximately 80% new French oak. It’s full-bodied and slightly buttery, with an appealing custardy richness and a long finish. (Joe Czerwinski)SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2022 Peach, apricot and mango flavors are juicy and fleshy at the core of this white, with honeyed overtones. Salted butter, spice and toasted pastry notes emerge on the finish, as does a touch of dried ginger. Drink now. 8,714 cases made. (MaryAnn Worobiec)VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022 The 2020 Chardonnay Private Reserve is creamy, open-knit and expressive. Lemon confit, spice, vanillin and light tropical notes all grace the 2020. As always, the Private Reserve is done in a richer, creamier style than the Luminus Chardonnay. That approach worked well in 2020. (Antonio Galloni)
RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2021 The 2019 Ried Grassnitzberg Sauvignon Blanc is sometimes quite reductive and needs a lot of air, but it is precise, deep and clear. A second bottle was far better and a clearer Grassnitzberg representative, with a deep, cool and intensely fruity nose with mango notes and fine, smoky spice. Complex, elegant and fine on the palate, this is a full-bodied, juicy, ripe, savory, salty and grippy Sauvignon from Grassnitzberg that is tartly bitter on the finish and needs plenty of time to shine. The 2019 is not at all for young-wine or brand drinkers, but for collectors and connoisseurs of demanding wines. This is a tightly knit, taut, big wine that needs around 10 years before its journey really begins. 13% stated alcohol. Glass stopper. Tasted in Grafenegg in September 2021. (Stephan Reinhardt)JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, October 7, 2021 Smoky and flinty nose and, as it aerates, ever more grapefruit, then hay and seaweed. Concentrated with lively acidity and excellent minerality at the long, invigorating finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. Glass stopper. (James Suckling)
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2023 Impressive for the generous, plump flavors and the restraint and elegance of the candied ginger peel, briny preserved lemon, peppery white flower and buttery peach pastry flavors on a plush frame. Reveals a juicy thread of acidity. Drink now. 1,638 cases made. (MaryAnn Worobiec)RP92+92–94 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2023 Tasted as a tank sample prior to bottling, the barrel-fermented 2021 Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard displays a full-bodied, rich, custardy mouthfeel that easily carries the bold flavors of pineapple, white peach and citrus. It’s a blend of several blocks and sees approximately 60% new French oak. (Joe Czerwinski)
RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 25th Aug 2022 The 2020 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese opens with an intense bouquet of super ripe and concentrated, healthy shriveled raisins and overripe Riesling berries with very fine slate and flinty notes in the background. On the palate, the Zeltinger Auslese is clear, precise and crystalline, showing concentrated, saline and savory rather than sweet fruit brought to the dance by this delicate, crystal clear and mouth-watering acidity that make this a beautiful, already digestible Auslese whose bouquet and taste are aromatically two different worlds but logical. The fruit was shriveled in perfect condition, and the juice that came out reflects exactly this: freshness, precision and perfect ripeness. A fabulous Auslese from the "neighboring" Sonnenuhr. 7% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 17 21 in July 2022. (Stephan Reinhardt)
JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, August 9, 2022 A lot of floral delicacy and lemon and lime zest, but also some good white-peach fruit behind those high notes. Good depth on the mid-palate for the challenging vintage, with some wet-stone character at the long, crisp finish. Made from fruit grown on Kueka Lake and Seneca Lake. Drink or hold. Screw cap.WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2023 Delicately crafted from one of the Finger Lakes’s best known producers, this opens with a lifted aromas of white peach, lemon-lime and florals, with a honeyed underbelly. The palate is dry with a lofty line of laser-like, lemony acidity and a slightly chalky texture. Crying out flavorful fish dishes like spicy fish tacos or Thai red curry. (Christina Pickard)RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th May 2022 The 2021 Dry Riesling comes in with eight grams per liter of residual sugar, 7.9 of total acidity and 12% alcohol. I haven’t been liking a lot of what I’m seeing from this vintage (to be sure, there haven’t been a lot of examples yet), but this seems awfully nice. Fresh, balanced and lively, this adds a juicy, tense finish, and the fruit occasionally asserts itself. It’s elegant in the mid-palate, dancing across the tongue. I’ll be interested to see if this can hold form or improve in a couple of years, but right now it is a fine choice at a nice price point. Of course, it is a serious Dry Riesling. If you like them sweeter or fruitier, this is not for you. (Mark Squires)
JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/2/2022 The 2020 Chardonnay Chloe is rich with aromas of mineral-rich earth, pine resin, Meyer lemon. and yellow apple. The palate is fleshy, with orange oil, a touch of savory richness, and stony mouthfeel. It is appealing and open now, but it will certainly hold on for 10 or more years. (Audrey Frick)RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jul 2022 The 2020 Chardonnay Chloe, from the El Diablo Vineyard and Lorenzo Vineyard, offers an incredible combination of concentrated flavors and energetic acidity. It has intense aromas of apricot and quince with nuances of elderflower, brioche, cashews and honey, pleasing, flinty reduction and classy new oak spices. The full-bodied palate explodes with layers of ripe fruits supported by a satiny texture and focused acidity, and it has a dynamic finish that segues from stone fruits to flowers and spicy accents. Wow! About 1,000 cases were made. (Erin Brooks)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022 The 2020 Sauvignon Blanc l’Apres Midi includes a tiny proportion of Sémillon. Picked very ripe and barrel fermented in about 20% new French oak, but with the malolactic fermentation blocked, it’s a full-bodied creamy-textured white wine, with notes of ripe fig and melon accented by grassier notes, lime zest and hints of struck flint and crushed stone. I prefer this style of wine on the young side, so I’d suggest drinking it over the next couple of years.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2022 Enticing, with bright honeysuckle and orange blossom notes leading the way, backed by Meyer lemon, white peach and clementine flavors at the core. The racy, fresh finish has nice tension, with a quinine note lingering. Drink now through 2025. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 5,640 cases made. (James Molesworth)WS9292 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 06/22 This leads with a beguiling scent of camellia and lemon, overlying a pineapple depth of flavor and granular texture. Its flavors are elegant and light, with a phenolic persistence that adds some grip. It’s a lot of wine for the price.RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 21st Apr 2022 The 2019 Dry Riesling is a roughly equal blend of Seneca Lake’s 16 Falls and White Springs vineyards (with just a dollop from Keuka Lake). It’s dry (four grams of sugar, with 9.2 grams of total acidity) and comes in at 12.5% alcohol. This drinks well, perhaps thanks to having that extra year of bottle aging. The acidity, though evident, is well integrated and countered by the fruit. There’s plenty of power, but it is never shrill. The juicy finish is also filled with fruit. This is a super Dry Riesling and a nice bargain. It should age well and develop more, but it is going to be hard to resist this summer. (Mark Squires)
WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2023 This full-bodied and beautifully balanced wine is powered by energized fruit acidity, giving it a lively mouthfeel, vivid green apple and lemon zest flavors and a snappy finish, while subtle oak notes remain secondary. Fermented in oak barrels and stainless barrels, and matured without maloactic conversion, the wine is super refreshing, clean and mouth-watering and should only get more complex and smooth with time. Best from 2024–2031. (Jim Gordon)RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2023 Always an impressive bottling, the 2021 Chardonnay Red Shoulder Ranch was barrel fermented in a 75% new French oak and 25% stainless steel. Boasting fabulous aromas of lemon curd, apple, pear and pencil shavings, this non-malolactic Chardonnay is full-bodied, round and generous on the palate, then crisp and refreshing on the finish. If it’s not as complex or rich as the very best Chardonnays California has to offer, it’s not that far behind, and the pricing and availability (6000 cases produced) remain reasonable for a wine of this quality. (Joe Czerwinski)
JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, April 22, 2022 Aromas of candied ginger, baked pear and fresh herbs. Full-bodied with a lovely, oily texture. Layered flavors of chamomile and lavender at the beginning, but turns toward fresh cream and then the note of candied ginger on the nose returns. Linear and balanced. Drink now.VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2023 The 2020 Chardonnay CH lifts from the glass with a confectionary mix of candied apple, baking spice and mint. This is round and opulent in feel with cooling acidity to balance, as the 2020 traverses spectrums of tropical melon and ripe orchard fruits. It cleans up beautifully through the finish, leaving a twang of saline-minerality, as pretty inner florals slowly fade. (Eric Guido)RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2022 A golden yellow color in the glass, the 2020 Ch Chardonnay offers aromas of blown sand, yellow apple and pastry cream with elements of popcorn kernel and sweet citrus. Medium-bodied, the wine offers a delightful mineral and textural drive over the mid-palate before expressing a clean and delightful finish that delivers at a great price. The wine rested in 25% new French oak. Just over 400,000 bottles were produced. (Anthony Mueller)
RP95+95+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2020 From 80- to 90+-year-old vines in the original plot below the sundial, the 2019 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese is very precise and fresh on the flinty, slatey and crisp fruit bouquet. Juicy-piquant and sweet on the palate, this is a tight and crispy, very intense yet still sulfuric Spätlese from a really great terroir. The fruit is still fresh and precise and was picked together with the dry GG selection, which is picked from the inner part with a higher acidity, whereas the Spätlese is from the outside berries that have more ripeness. The 2019 should be aged for at least 10 years. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.
