RP95+95–97 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th May 2022 Beaucastel’s 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape is shaping up as a blend of 30% each Grenache and Mourvèdre, with 10% each Counoise and Syrah, plus 20% other permitted varieties, including a healthy proportion of white grapes. Complex and red-fruited, with hints of flowers and garrigue, it’s expansive and richly textured on the palate, finishing long and silky. (Joe Czerwinski)JD94+94–96 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/11/2022 The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape was scheduled to be bottled the week after this tasting, and it’s the usual blend of 35% Mourvedre, 25% Grenache, and the rest Syrah, Counoise, and other permitted varieties. While the estate compares this to their 2016, it reminds me slightly of their 1990 and has a wonderful perfume of red, blue, and black fruits, as well as sappy garrigue, saddle leather, and ground pepper. It’s beautifully textured, medium to full-bodied, has a good sense of freshness, and fine tannins, as well as a tight, focused style on the palate that bodes well for longevity. It deserves 7–8 years of bottle age and should be long-lived. (Jeb Dunnuck)
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2023 There’s a delicacy to this Zinfandel due in large part to the vibrancy of the fruit and elevated acid structure. While the nose leads with oak tones of fresh cedar wood, chocolate and nutmeg, the palate opens up to vivacious fruit. notes of black and red plum, red currant, rhubarb, mission fig, boysenberry and blueberry.
VN8787 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2022 The 2020 Nero d’Avola is dark with exotic spices, masses of black raspberry and a contrasting hint of mint that forms its bouquet. This is a fruit-forward and juicy effort, yet balance is nicely maintained through cooling acidity and a trace of sour citrus. It finishes fresh with hints of licorice and inner rose tones that linger. As entry-level Nero d’Avola goes, this is an excellent value.
JD94+94+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/3/2021 The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Origines (50% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, and 20% Syrah aged in 50% new oak) is similarly deep purple and offers a straight-up stunning bouquet of ripe cassis and blackberry fruits intermixed with chocolate, Asian spices, cured meats, and new leather. A powerful, concentrated, rich 2019, it has a great mid-palate, building yet ripe tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. The purity of fruit here is top notch, and while it’s unquestionably a modern style Châteauneuf, the oak is nicely integrated and I suspect will disappear completely with 5–6 years of bottle age. (Jeb Dunnuck)VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2021 Deep violet. Oak-spice- and mineral-tinged aromas of ripe cherry and black currant are joined by garrigue and floral notes that build in the glass. Alluringly sweet and expansive in the mouth, offering juicy red and blue fruit preserve, succulent herb and licorice flavors braced by an undercurrent of smoky minerality. A vanilla nuance emerges on an impressively long, penetrating finish firmed by gently chewy tannins.WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2022 Although matured in 50% new oak, a core of pristine black cherry and cassis flavors entices in this blend of Grenache (50%), Mourvèdre (30%) and Syrah (20%). Supple in mouthfeel and accented by dustings of cocoa powder and Christmas spice, it finishes with charry, gripping tannins. Approachable already, the wine should improve through 2035.SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2021 Warm in feel, with a gush of plum puree and blackberry paste flavors, liberally laced with black licorice and roasted alder notes. A solidly built, modern version, with a nice tug of warm earth on the back end. Best from 2022 through 2034. 700 cases made, 280 cases imported.
Cotes du Rhône Villages 2018 / 750 ml. | Item#53782
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th Nov 2020 An oak-aged blend of Grenache and Syrah, the 2018 Cotes du Rhone Villages Sainte Cecile Gabrielle boasts ample notes of bay leaf, thyme and sage on the nose, backed by ripe cherries and hints of mocha. It’s a medium to full-bodied, velvety-textured wine that drinks well now and should continue to do so for another 4–5 years.
JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - January 27, 2021 Moving to the two reds, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is brilliant all the way, offering a smorgasbord-like bouquet of blueberries, raspberries, spring flowers, cured meats, tobacco, and assorted other spicy, floral nuances. I always find a subtle red fruit and mineral character in top Stags Leap Cabernet, and this beauty has it in spades. Full-bodied on the palate, this pure, plush, sexy Napa Valley Cabernet has sweet tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. Seemingly all about sweet fruit and texture, it’s nevertheless going to evolve for 20–25 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021 The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a powerhouse. It needs time to come together, as the elements are a bit disjointed, but there is a ton of potential, that much is clear. Dark blue/purplish berry fruit, spice, lavender, chocolate and white flowers abound. I would prefer to cellar the 2018 for a few years to allow the tannins to soften.RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2020 Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate bursts from the glass, offering vibrant notes of blackberry pie, plum preserves and black and red currant jelly with nuances of bay leaves, tar and licorice plus a waft of cinnamon stick. The full-bodied palate is jam-packed with juicy black fruits, supported by approachable, grainy tannins and tons of freshness, finishing long with an herbal lift.
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - May 2023 The 2022 Rosé is spicy, blending crushed stone with a grapefruit and young kiwi spritz. This is round and silky in feel, gaining a more tactile edge as saline minerals settle in. The 2022 finishes incredibly fresh, leaving behind tropical melon and a gentle tug of sour citrus tension.
