WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2021 Concentrated flavors of blueberries and blackberries are nicely framed by moderate tannins in this dry wine that’s been bolstered with 13% Petite Sirah. A full body and lightly gripping texture set it up nicely for pairing with big proteins. (Jim Gordon)
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2021 Oodles of ripe fruit flavors ride a full body in this dark-colored, saturated wine. Impressively concentrated chocolate and black-cherry notes are braced by fine-grained tannins for an almost chewy texture.
JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, October 27, 2020 A red with plenty of ripe fruit, such as berries and cherries with some fresh-herb and lemon undertones. It’s medium-to full-bodied with bright fruit and fine tannins. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2020 The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Castello di Volpaia is an immensely rewarding, inviting wine. Juicy and racy, with no hard edges, the Riserva captures the allure of this warm, dry year. There is plenty to like in the 2017, starting with its depth and volume, I won’t be surprised if the Riserva turns out to be even better than this note suggests. Sweet red fruit, cedar and blood orange give the 2017 striking aromatic intensity and lift.WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2020 Aromas of blue flower, spiced plum, new leather and sunbaked earth form the inviting nose on this pure Sangiovese. Made with organically farmed grapes, the smooth, savory palate doles out fleshy black cherry, baking spice and chopped mint alongside velvety tannins that give it a polished texture. Drink through 2025.RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th Mar 2021 If you have a platter of fatty porchetta and are looking for a worthy Tuscan wine for that party, look no further. Packaged in a black label, the Volpaia 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Castello di Volpaia (made with organic fruit) does a great job of showing purity and freshness in what was a challenging vintage for sure. This Riserva reveals delineated tones of cherry and dark berry with crushed limestone, blue flowers and some of the wild herbs and bramble that I often recognize in wines from this corner of Tuscany. I happily recommend it to all Sangiovese enthusiasts.SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2021 Black currant and blackberry fruit defines this juicy, saturated red, with earth, cedar and tobacco adding accents. Finishes with a firm edge of tannins. Best from 2024 through 2040. 5,000 cases made, 3,500 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/16/2023 Moving to the 2020s from bottle, the 2020 Ventoux Quintessence is beauty revealing assorted blackberry and black raspberry-like fruits, some obvious chalky minerality, medium to full body, and a complex bouquet of violets, flowers, and spice. I love its purity, and it’s going to age for 10–15 years in cold cellars. (Jeb Dunnuck)
JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/16/2023 Just bottled, the 2021 Ventoux Quintessence Blanc is 80% Roussanne and 20% Clairette that spent nine months in roughly 20% new oak. A gorgeous white, it has tons of crushed citrus, pear, ripe melon, honeyed flowers, and a chalky sense of minerality. These carry to a medium-bodied, beautifully balanced, pure, lengthy white that will stand up to any white out there. It’s brilliant juice. (Jeb Dunnuck)
Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2019 / 750 ml. | Item#58787
VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022 The 2019 Tour Saint Christophe builds on the promise it showed from barrel. This sample was actually tasted at my home, where I afforded it a two-hour decant. It revealed precocious yet controlled blackberry and blueberry fruit scents, with that violet component still intact. The tannins have not lost any of their grippiness or assertiveness. This is a Saint-Émilion that is in for the long haul. Great potential. (Neal Martin)JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/11/2022 This estate has been delivering the goods for numerous vintages now, and the 2019 Château Tour Saint Christophe is another terrific wine. Ripe black cherries, black raspberries, graphite, new leather, and chalky minerality all define the nose, and it’s medium to full-bodied, has a tight, straight, focused texture, ripe yet present tannins, and outstanding length. It doesn’t have the mid-palate density or opulence of the 2018, but it’s more pretty, focused, and straight on the palate. Give bottles 4–5 years and enjoy over the following two decades. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 7th Apr 2022 From clay-rich soils opposite Troplong Mondot in the commune Saint Christophe des Bardes, the 2019 Tour Saint Christophe offers up demonstrative aromas of cherries, wild berries, sweet loamy soil, licorice and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with an enveloping core of fruit, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins, it’s a strong effort in a crowd-pleasing style. (William Kelley)
JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/11/2022 Bottled a month ago, the 2020 Côtes Du Rhône Coudoulet sports a vivid ruby hue and is a blend of 30% each of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre, with the balance Cinsault. It’s a ripe, rounded, medium to full-bodied effort that has lots of ripe red and blue fruits as well as notes of peppery garrigue and leather. Drink this juicy, elegant Côtes Du Rhône over the coming decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP90+90–92 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th May 2022 The 2020 Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet de Beaucastel continues this cuvée's hot streak. A blend of approximately 30% each Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, with 10% Carignan, it boasts attractive floral overtones, hints of crushed stone and ripe cherry fruit. Full-bodied and impressively silky for such a young wine, it should be drinkable upon release and for at least a decade thereafter. (Joe Czerwinski)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Jun 2023 A blend of 60% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache and 20% Cinsault, the 2022 Bandol Rose exhales aromas of red berries, spices, pomegranate, licorice, jasmine and iodine. Tense, juicy, medium-bodied and elegant, it’s long and fresh with a touch of spritzy residual carbon dioxide. This tasty yet perfectly balanced, clean and precise rosé can be aged over the next 2–4 years. (Yohan Castaing)
RP91+91–93 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2019 Another top-notch vintage for this property, the 2018 Lirac Domaine du Clos de Sixte looks as if it may rival the 2016. It’s 50% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre, aging in concrete (70%) and barrels (30%). Floral notions mark the nose, while flavors of raspberries and apricots appear on the full-bodied palate. This seems creamy-supple at first, with steadily building tannins on the lengthy finish. (Joe Czerwinski)
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2020 The raspberry and garrigue-scented 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Le Miocene has turned out as well I hoped after last year’s visit. Medium to full-bodied, it’s tightened up a bit and shows more dusty tannin on the finish than I recall, but that should just serve to extend its drinking window through at at least 2030.VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2021 Vivid ruby. Fragrant cherry and red berry scents pick up suggestions of licorice and lavender with aeration. Spicy, concentrated and smooth on the palate, offering appealingly sweet raspberry, cherry liqueur and floral pastille flavors and a hint of succulent herbs. Finishes sweet and quite long, with velvety tannins framing lingering cherry and floral notes.JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - October 6, 2020 The 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape Le Miocène can be thought of as the entry-level Châteauneuf from this estate and is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre brought up in a mix of tank and neutral, older barrels. Impressive notes of mulled black cherries, darker currants, chocolaty herbs, and pepper all emerge from the glass and this medium to full-bodied 2018 has a great mid-palate, ample depth and richness, and sweet tannins. It’s beautifully done and just about seamless on the palate, with the forward, already delicious style of the vintage front and center. enjoy bottles anytime over the coming decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)
JD9999 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/3/2021 The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes is based on 45% each of Grenache and Mourvèdre, with the balance Syrah, all destemmed and raised in 55% new French oak. Gorgeous cassis, violet, graphite, fruitcake, and peppery herbs define this brilliant effort, and it’s full-bodied, with a pure, seamless texture, wonderful tannins, and one heck of a great finish. This magical 2019 is going to benefit from 4–5 years of bottle age (it’s brilliant even today) yet keep for 20 years or more. Châteauneuf du Pape lovers need to have this in their cellar! (Jeb Dunnuck)RP97+97+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th May 2022 Always the densest and richest of the cuvées at this benchmark estate, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes features scents of cedar and mocha layered against a backdrop of black cherries. This actually is a bit like Black Forest cake—that ripe, rich and dense, with chocolate and vanilla shadings—but remains dry and savory in the end, with velvety tannins and tremendous length. It’s approximately 50% Grenache (aged in tank), plus 40% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah (both aged in new barrels). (Joe Czerwinski)
JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - October 6, 2020 Coming from a cooler, windy appellation, the 2018 Côtes Du Rhône Villages Valréas starts out with a darker, slightly earthy bouquet of red and blue fruits, damp forest floor, peppery herbs, and spring flowers that picks up more and more fruit with time in the glass. It shows more sweetness (ripe fruit, not sugar) and elegance on the palate and has good acidity, a balanced, light texture, silky tannins, and a great finish. It needs a good splash decant if drinking anytime soon and is a complex, nuanced, interesting Côtes du Rhône that should keep nicely for 5–6 years or more. (Jeb Dunnuck)
