WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2021 Dusty shards of granite, lavender and sun-kissed mulberries perfume this wine from Alain Jaume. It’s an approachable, fruity blend of Grenache (60%), Syrah (30%) and Cinsault (10%) cut by a revitalizing strike of acidity and a lingering stony finish. Best enjoyed now–2024.JD8989 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 10/6/2020 Mostly Grenache blended with roughly 30% Syrah, brought up all in tank, the 2019 Côtes Du Rhône Haut De Brun is another terrific release from this estate that delivers loads of pleasure for not much buck. Impressive red and black fruits, notes of peppery garrigue, and earth, medium-bodied richness, and a juicy, gulpable style all make for a seriously good Côtes du Rhône to enjoy over the coming 3–5 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 24th Sep 2020 The 2019 Cotes du Rhone Haut de Brun comes across as slightly darker and more concentrated than the 2018, showing hints of blueberries and black cherries mixing in with the raspberries and cherries. It’s medium to full-bodied, shows some soft, velvety tannins, and displays admirable purity on the finish.
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 10/6/2020 A solid step up over the 2018, the 2019 Côtes du Rhône offers more red and black fruits, loads of peppery garrigue, medium to full-bodied richness, and more depth and character than you’d get from just about any other Côtes du Rhône out there. Beautifully balanced, with ripe tannins and a great finish, it’s a no-brainer, character-filled Côtes du Rhône to enjoy over the coming 3–5 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th May 2022 Mainly Grenache, with the balance a blend of Mourvèdre and Syrah, the 2019 Cotes du Rhone offers up notions of ripe cherries, garrigue and even a few modest hints of pine sap. Medium to full-bodied, it’s concentrated and ripe yet silky and reasonably elegant. Drink it over the next several years.
JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/11/2022 Bottled a month ago, the 2020 Côtes Du Rhône Coudoulet sports a vivid ruby hue and is a blend of 30% each of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre, with the balance Cinsault. It’s a ripe, rounded, medium to full-bodied effort that has lots of ripe red and blue fruits as well as notes of peppery garrigue and leather. Drink this juicy, elegant Côtes Du Rhône over the coming decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP90+90–92 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th May 2022 The 2020 Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet de Beaucastel continues this cuvée's hot streak. A blend of approximately 30% each Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, with 10% Carignan, it boasts attractive floral overtones, hints of crushed stone and ripe cherry fruit. Full-bodied and impressively silky for such a young wine, it should be drinkable upon release and for at least a decade thereafter. (Joe Czerwinski)
JD91+91–93 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/3/2021 The 2020 Côtes du Rhône Villages Terre d’Argile, which comes from vines just north of Châteauneuf du Pape, is always a stunning Côtes du Rhône. In fact, there’s not many better out there. The 2020 shows the pure, lively style of the vintage as well as classic cassis and raspberry fruits supported by toasted spice and floral notes. It’s medium to full-bodied, balanced, and clearly an outstanding, impeccably made wine. (Jeb Dunnuck)SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022 A stylish red, with impressive polish to the flavors of cassis and red licorice highlighted by dried anise, vanilla and singed alder. Boasts snappy acidity and silky tannins, which nicely frame the lush palate. Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2026. 3,500 cases made, 750 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
JD90+90–92 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 10/6/2020 A blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre brought up in tank, the 2019 Côtes Du Rhône La Dame Rousse is a big, rich, powerful Côtes du Rhône loaded with notions of smoked black cherries, licorice, scorched earth, and ample minerality. These all carry to a medium to full-bodied Southern Rhône that has terrific purity of fruit, ripe, present tannins, and a great finish. I love its balance and it’s going to deliver ample pleasure over the coming 4–6 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/3/2021 Moving to the 2019s from bottle, the Côtes Du Rhône Lieu-Dit Clavin always shows the style of this estate as well as the vintage, and the 2019 is well worth seeking out. Black cherries, gravelly earth, spicy herbs, and violet notes give way to a medium to full-bodied, floral, seamless Côtes du Rhône that does everything right. (Jeb Dunnuck)
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 10/6/2020 A good buy, the 2019 Côtes du Rhône from this great estate offers up a medium ruby color as well as an incredibly Provençal perfume of spiced red fruits, peppery garrigue, new saddle leather, and flowery incense. Medium-bodied, seamless, and elegant on the palate, it’s already hard to resist and should continue to put a smile on your face any time over the coming 2–4 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2022 Sourced from a plot just a stone’s throw from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Les Champauvins is consistently one of the best Côtes-du-Rhône bottlings available. Heady aromas of lilac and crushed white pepper introduce a palate that’s powerful yet pure in fruit, packed with flavors of candied raspberry and strawberry leather. Delicate and dusty in tannins, it finishes long on streaks of salt and anise. Lovely young, the wine should improve through 2029 at least. (Anna Lee C. Iijima)JD91+91–93 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 10/6/2020 The Grenache dominated (there is 30% Syrah) 2019 Côtes Du Rhône Les Champauvins is perfect for readers looking for a wine that over-delivers and won’t break the bank. A great nose of black cherries, currants, roasted garrigue, licorice, and Provençal spice notes gives way to a medium to full-bodied, ripe, balanced, straight-up terrific and pleasure-bent Côtes du Rhône that will deliver the goods for 4–6 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th May 2022 Much better than a previously tasted tank sample, the bottled 2019 Cotes du Rhone les Champauvins is another successful vintage for this perennial overachiever. Mulberries and raspberries appear on the nose, while the full-bodied, softly dusty palate is concentrated and pure, finishing on long-lasting notes of red berries and salted licorice. (Joe Czerwinski)
RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2020 The 2019 Cotes du Rhone Villages Visan A Fleur de Pampre is a mouthwatering blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Carignan, all vinified in stainless steel and aged in concrete. Black raspberries and black olives mingle easily on the nose, followed by a medium-bodied palate framed by silky tannins and a juicy, vibrant finish. It should make for fun, casual drinking over the next 4–5 years.
RP88+88–90 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th Dec 2020 Plums, black cherries and hints of garrigue mark the nose of the 2019 Cotes du Rhone les 3 Soeurs, a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. It’s medium to full-bodied, with soft masses of ripe tannin that impart a plush mouthfeel and linger easily on the finish. As always with this cuvée, I’d opt for drinking it on the young side.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 24th Sep 2020 Boysenberries, blueberries and hints of redder fruit emerge on the nose of the 2019 Cotes du Rhone les Claux, a blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. It’s medium to full-bodied, with a plump, generous feel and a silky texture accompanied by a gorgeous sensation of freshness and lip-smacking acidity on the long finish.JD90+90–92 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 10/6/2020 I loved the 2018 version of this wine and the 2019 Cotes Du Rhône Les Claux is certainly cut from the same cloth. Based on a mix of Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre, its deep purple color is followed by a rich, meaty, Provençal wine that has lots of mulled red and black fruits, notes of black licorice and black pepper, medium to full-bodied richness, and a clean, lengthy finish. This young, concentrated Cotes du Rhône is ideal for drinking over the coming 5–6 years or so. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th May 2022 A destemmed assemblage of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah from a parcel of wines located just 800 meters from the winery, the 2020 Cotes du Rhone Beatus Ille offers a bit of the Ferrando magic for a lower price than the Châteauneufs. Floral notes join raspberries and cherries on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is silky and fine, finishing long, with hints of caramel and roasted fruit.
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 2/16/2022 I’m always amazed at the quality this estate gets in the Côtes du Rhône, especially at the quantities produced. Their 2018 Côtes Du Rhône is well worth seeking out and has a medium-bodied, round, silky style as well as textbook peppery herbs, violets, bouquet garni, and both red and black fruits. It shows the supple, charming, forward style of the vintage and is ideal for drinking over the coming 4–5 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP89+89–91 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2019 Looking more complex and complete than the 2017 at this point, the 2018 Cotes du Rhone still has a year or so of élevage ahead of it. It has a slightly herbal, briary note, dark berry fruit and hints of mocha on the full-bodied palate. Round and fleshy, it finishes smooth and velvety. (Joe Czerwinski)SP8787 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 28, 2022 Dusty-edged, with understated cherry and red currant fruit flavors lined liberally with sandalwood and balsam wood notes. Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Drink now. 45,000 cases imported. (James Molesworth)
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 12/15/2022 The base Côtes Du Rhône from Guigal has to be one of the greatest wines at the price point and volume produced. The 2021 Côtes Du Rhône Blanc offers lots of Viognier character in its apricot, flowers, ripe citrus, and dried herb-like aromatics. Medium-bodied on the palate, it’s fresh, focused, and one heck of a high-quality white to enjoy over the coming year or three. (Jeb Dunnuck)SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 28, 2023 Floral and bright, with ripe cantaloupe, honeysuckle and nectarine flavors that are succulent and generous. Reveals chamomile and salted almond notes that add intrigue on the tasty finish. Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne, Clairette, Bourboulenc and Grenache Blanc. Drink now. 40,000 cases made, 10,000 cases imported. (Kristen Bieler)
