  1. Il Marroneto Madonna delle Grazie

    Brunello di Montalcino
    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#59730

    RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 9th Mar 2023
The Il Marroneto 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Madonna delle Grazie reveals elegance and power all in one go. The fruit quality is crisp and tonic, yet the wine supports mid-weight concentration and a more elaborate style. This vintage from Il Marroneto has two personalities. On the one hand, you get a wine that is packed with beautiful primary fruit but that is slightly more immediate; on the other, you get a wine that promises good aging thanks to its freshness and the silky tannins that melt onto the palate. It is young but also aged. It is racy but also complex. Fruit comes from the vineyard under the Madonna delle Grazie chapel, and the wine ages in special oak casks for 41 months. This is a production of 8,500 bottles. (Monica Larner)
    VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2022
The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Madonna delle Grazie takes its time opening in the glass, complex and darkly alluring with its musky red currants and savory spices, yet with swirling pretty rose tones. A hint of sweet smoke comes forward to add lovely contrast. Its textures are like liquid velvet, with a chalky mineral staining that comes on quickly, which is perfectly balanced by a massive wave of dark red berries; yet through it all, balance is expertly maintained by streamlined acidity that creates a sense of total inner harmony. The 2018 leaves a structured sensation, yet its tannins are silky and fine, coupled with a violet pastille and lavender resonance that I find wildly attractive. Of note, I’ve tasted this wine over the last two years and followed this recent bottle over the course of 48 hours; at which point it never faltered and only increased in depth and complexity. Il Marroneto’s 2018 Madonna delle Grazie is unquestionably one of the top three wines of the vintage. My hat is off to Alessandro Mori, and his team. (Eric Guido)

  2. Jonata El Desafio de Jonata

    2012 / 750 ml. | Item#41966

    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Aug 2015
Probably the longest-lived wine in the vintage from Santa Barbara, Jonata’s 630-case 2012 El Desafio de Jonata checks in as a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc, 15% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot that saw 80% new French oak. It reveals a masculine, meaty, structured personality as well as rockin’ notes of blackcurrants, wood smoke, lead pencil shavings and crushed rock. Full-bodied, balanced and with building tannic grip, it still shows the suppleness of the vintage, but needs 2–3 years to even start to be drinkable. It will have 2–3 decades of longevity.
    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2015
The Cabernet Sauvignon-based 2012 El Desafio de Jonata graces the palate with its sensual personality. Raspberry jam, pomegranate, leather, smoke, spice and tobacco all blossom in the glass. Big, rich and inviting, the 2012 boasts superb intensity and resonance, although it doesn’t quite have the visceral thrill of the very best wines in this range. Shades of rose petal and mint add the closing shades of nuance. The 2012 was aged in French oak, 80% new.

  3. K Syrah The Hustler

    2012 / 750 ml. | Item#44368

    WE9696 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 2/1/2017
This is a unicorn wine that only gets made in exceptional years—the last time was a decade ago. Hailing from Morrison Lane, the oldest Syrah plantings in the valley, it brings mesmerizing aromas of blackberry, black fruit, moist earth and wet stone. The black-fruit flavors consume the palate, showing density, depth and exceptional length. It’s a complete heart-stopper.
    RP95+95–97 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Jun 2015
Still in barrel at the time of this tasting, the 2012 Syrah The Hustler is a blockbuster-styled Syrah that’s overflowing with notions of sweet red and black fruits, toasted bread, cured meats and cedar. Only made in special vintages (it was previously made in ’03, ’07 and ’09) and aged 38 months in French oak, it’s full-bodied, decadent and layered, with a weightless, elegant, seamless feel. Coming all from the Morrison Lane Vineyard (it’s actually the Morrison Lane Syrah with extended barrel aging), it should be ready to go on release and dish out tons of pleasure over the following decade or more. The extended elevage has given this a more upfront feel, yet I suspect it will also allow it age more slowly as well.
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2016
Has presence, featuring a smoky edge to blueberry and black cherry flavors that spill around the stony notes on the finish. Comes together with intensity and harmony. Best from 2017 through 2022. 143 cases made.

  4. Kapcsándy Family Winery Cabernet Sauvignon - Grand Vin

    State Lane Vineyard
    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#56867

    RP100100 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th Nov 2020
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin State Lane Vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon again this year. "Now that the vineyard has matured, the Cabernet vines give us full, complete wines," Kapcsandy’s consulting winemaker, Tony Arcudi, said. The wine was aged in French oak, 90% new. Deep garnet-purple in color, the nose needs a little coaxing to release scents of fresh black and red currant, blackberries and kirsch with touches of unsmoked cigars, cedar chest and violets, plus a waft of chocolate mint. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is built like a brick house with super firm, super ripe tannins and amazing freshness supporting the packed-in layers of black and red fruits, finishing long and earthy/savory. Yep, nailed it. 400 cases were made.
    VN9898 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin is simply magnificent. I think it is the kind of wine Lou Kapcsándy always wanted to make. A wine that is everything - powerful, elegant and structured. The 2018 is all of that, and so much more. Soaring floral and mineral accents make a strong first impression. The 2018 positively sizzles with energy. Dark cherry, plum, graphite, leather and chocolate build over time. What a showstopper it is!

  5. Kapcsándy Family Winery Roberta’s Reserve

    State Lane Vineyard
    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#56871

    VN9898 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2018 Roberta’s Reserve is another magnificent wine from the Kapcsándy family. Beautifully ripe and deep, the Roberta’s balances richness with elegance in a stunning style. Black cherry, chocolate, new leather, licorice, spice and menthol, build as this creamy, expansive Merlot opens over time. The 2018 is all class. In a word: superb.
    JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/27/2021
The Merlot-dominated 2018 Roberta’s Reserve (there is 2% Cabernet Franc) is also deeply hued and has a great nose of smoked black and blue fruits, gravelly earth, chocolate, and tobacco. As with all the wines here, it has incredible purity of fruit, the tannins are just about perfect, and it’s flawlessly balanced. Hide bottles for 4–5 years and enjoy over the following 15–20 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    RP96+96+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th Nov 2020
A blend of 98% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Roberta’s Reserve State Lane Vineyard was aged in French oak, 75% new. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes bounding out of the glass with energetic notes of crushed red and black plums, boysenberries and Morello cherries plus hints of blueberry pie, camphor, dark chocolate, star anise and bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a solid foundation of ripe, rounded tannins and bold freshness supporting the generous, crunchy black and red fruit, finishing long and lifted. 175 cases were made.

  6. Kathryn Hall Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#59384

    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 2/16/2023
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot, brought up mostly in new barrels. It’s a killer bottle of wine offering lots of ripe black fruits intermixed with savory herbs, melted chocolate, and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it shows the lush, round, velvety style of the 2019 vintage and is already impossible to resist. It’s going to evolve for 15+ years if well stored. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2022
Rich and fleshy in feel, but with a nice juicy edge for balance, this lets creamed plum and blackberry fruit spill forth, laced liberally with mocha, singed alder, sweet tobacco and melted black licorice. For the hedonist crowd. Drink now through 2035. 6,300 cases made. (James Molesworth)
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Sep 2022
There are 6,500 cases of the flagship 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall, based largely on fruit from the Sacrashe Vineyard, at the eastern edge of the Rutherford AVA. A blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Merlot, aged in 75% new barrels (mainly Taransaud), it’s cedary on the nose, with plenty of cassis and black cherries in support. Full-bodied and plush, this well-endowed effort finishes long and softly dusty, with just a touch of alcoholic warmth. (Joe Czerwinski)

  7. Keever Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#60498

    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/27/2021
I also loved the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, which brings another level of purity and class, offering gorgeous crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, white flowers, tobacco leaf, vanilla bean, and damp earth-like aromas and flavors. Pure, clean, full-bodied, and just a classy, flawlessly balanced beauty, it has fine tannins, the freshness of the vintage, and a great finish. Enjoy bottles over the coming 15–20 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    VN94+94+ pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
Keever’s 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is fabulous. In fact, it is one of the very best wines I have ever tasted here. Rich and explosive, with striking depth, the 2018 is beautifully layered and so expressive from the very first taste. Succulent dark cherry, plum, spice, menthol and licorice all build as this sumptuous Cabernet shows off its curves. I would give the 2018 a few years in bottle to soften. In a word: fabulous. 8. Kongsgaard Cabernet Sauvignon

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#53266

    RP93+93–95 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Nov 2019
A barrel sample, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon features a deep garnet-purple, singing on the nose of freshly crushed black cherries, black berry pie and warm plums over a core of cassis and pencil lead plus nuances of violets, cinnamon stick and underbrush. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-coating, crunchy black fruit with a firm backbone of ripe, grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy.
    VN90+90–93 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2020
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is bold, pungent and savory. Black olives, grilled herbs, blackberry jam, cloves, iron and leather as well as intense barbeque smoke give the broad 2018 a wild, really exotic character. If I had tasted it blind, I would have pegged it as Syrah. The is an undeniably wild and unusual wine; I am not really sure what to make of it at this stage. It is also a rare vintage that is pure 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.

    VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a big wine, but it is also surprisingly approachable for a young Kongsgaard Cabernet. Bright and vibrant, the 2019 offers up copious dark red/purplish fruit, mocha, wild flowers and pomegranate, with a firm spine of tannin that gives the wine its energy and shape. The 2019 will be positively stellar with a bit of time in the cellar. Actually, it already is.

  10. Kongsgaard Syrah

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#53466

    RP97+97–99+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Nov 2019
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Syrah Hudson Vineyard barrel sample explodes form the glass with an incredible array of classic Syrah notes: black cherries, black plums, blackberries and licorice with hints of garrigue, tar, bouquet garni and bacon fat. Full-bodied, the palate is equally atomic, with bags of expressive black fruits and meaty/peppery hints framed by ripe, rounded tannins, finishing long, refreshing and oh-so-spicy.
    VN94+94–97 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2020
The 2018 Syrah Hudson Vineyards is remarkably primary and yet, texturally, it is a wine of tremendous polish and sophistication. Today, it is the wine’s persistence that is most impressive. Like most of the 2018s here, the Syrah is light on its feet, nuanced and all about finesse. I can’t wait to see it in another year.

    WE9797 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2022
Kosta Browne is taking great care of this former Saintsbury vineyard source. A brilliant vein of black cherries and sour cherries weaves through black tea, redwood duff and subtle oak spices in this medium- to full-bodied wine, as dazzling acidity and moderate tannins energize the palate. Great balance and impressive depth make it stand out. Best from 2025–2032. (Jim Gordon)
    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jul 2022
Medium ruby, the 2019 Pinot Noir Cerise Vineyard is rustic to begin, with accents of tar, tobacco and bay leaves over an intense core of dark red fruit. The palate is full-bodied with abundant, gently chewy tannins, bright freshness and a long, earth-laced finish. (Erin Brooks)
