Contrary to popular belief, red wine doesn't start out red! While the grapes are fermenting in tanks, the grape skins, stems, and seeds are added to the mix, which gives the wine a dark ruby red color as well as imparting tannins and various other flavors.

The most common types of red wine are Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Malbec, but at WineMadeEasy.com we have a huge red wine list featuring an impressive selection, and our list is always growing. Our staff rates and reviews new wines every day to help you discover new gems. It is a difficult question: what is the best red wine? With our great prices, you can try a variety of new red wines and decide for yourself.

  1. Tenuta delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso San Lorenzo

    Grande Terroir Ellittico
    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#60691

    JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, July 19, 2023
This shows a very attractive, savory character with red cherries and raspberries, accompanied with dried summer herbs, candied orange and red spices. Dry earth, too. Medium- to full-bodied. Very even and seamless tannin structure. Refined and polished with a dusty earthiness that leads to a dry, delicate finish. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)

  4. Tenuta di Trinoro

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#56636

    RP100100 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 7th Oct 2021
This is a stunning wine and one of the best in this report covering the icons of Tuscany. The 2019 Tenuta di Trinoro is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. Fruit is sourced from the very best parcels, and the blending formula changes according to vintage and the style desired by vintner Andrea Franchetti. These vineyard parcels vary in altitude, ranging from 400 to 600 meters above sea level, and the soils are quite varied with pockets of clay, sand and rock. The Trinoro is profoundly deep and pure with a solid core of black fruit that is framed by an elegant contour of spice, tobacco, smoke and crushed stone. To the palate, the wine is long and the finish can be counted in minutes, but the entire experience is beautifully streamlined and velvety. This vintage saw an important freeze event on the 7th of May, and 9,000 fire candles were lit in the lower vineyard blocks to fight off frost damage.

The 2019 Tenuta di Trinoro is a surprisingly reticent wine. That’s not a descriptor I find myself reaching for often here, but it seems appropriate. Medium in body and quite nervy, the 2019 is going to need time to come together. The tannins are a bit severe at this stage. And yet there is plenty of Trinoro intensity waiting to emerge. Time brings out hints of dark-fleshed fruit, spice, mocha, licorice and incense. There’s plenty to look forward to.

  5. Tenuta di Trinoro Campo di Magnacosta

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#56635

    RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 7th Oct 2021
If you love Cabernet Franc, please direct your attention here. The Tenuta di Trinoro 2019 Campo di Magnacosta is a study in the intensity, power and depth of this grape. Campo di Magnacosta was the first of several single-vineyard parcels planted to this variety. The first bottling from this 1.5-hectare site was made in 2011, and this year a mere 2,122 bottles were released. The wine is profound and pure with luscious dark fruit, sharp minerality, spice and etched contours. You get that distinctive hint of slate or pencil shaving that is especially characteristic of this Cabernet Franc. Its full-bodied texture wraps smoothly over the palate, and the tannins have been expertly integrated.
    VN94+94+ pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022
The 2019 Campo di Magnacosta comes as very tightly wound. Bright red/purplish toned fruit, chalk, mint and white pepper lend notable and salivating energy to this decidedly focused Franc. It’s amazing to see just how expressive these wines are with regards to site and vintage. Let’s see if this fleshes out a bit more with time.
    SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2021
Bay leaf, tomato leaf and thyme aromas add a savory element to the black currant and black cherry fruit, with lively acidity and compact tannins providing support as this winds down on the lingering finish. Cabernet Franc. Best from 2024 through 2042. 176 cases made, 55 cases imported.

    WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2019
This blend of 66% Shiraz and 34% Cinsault smells ripe and juicy upfront, with aromas of blackberry, black plum and cherry. A lovely spicy overlay lends additional depth and interest, expressed through hits of mentholated herbs and bramble. The palate is smooth and supple, with well-integrated tannins that lend a soft structure and some lingering grip to the close.

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#57445

    JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 12/14/2020
Tasted out of bottle, the 2018 Côtes Catalanes Tessellae displays a spicy, complex style that carries vivid red and blue fruits, leather, licorice, tree bark, and peppery herbs aromas and flavors. Playing in the more medium-bodied end of the spectrum, it has solid purity of fruit, silky tannins, and a good finish. Enjoy this plump, pleasure-bent effort over the coming 3–4 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

    RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Sep 2021
A tank-aged blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre, the medium to full-bodied 2019 Tessellae Old Vines is dominated by bright, mouthwatering fruit: from raspberries to blueberries, with touches of blackberries swirled in, and just enough black olives and soft tannins on the finish to leave behind a dry, savory impression. Drink it over the next several years. (Joe Czerwinski)

  11. The Colonial Estate Exile

    2002 / 750 ml. | Item#23365

    RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st Oct 2004
Produced from a dry-farmed, single vineyard of old vine Shiraz (some of which are 120 years old), the stunning, inky/purple-tinged 2002 Shiraz Exile was aged in 100% new French oak. A sweet nose of black fruits, flowers, melted licorice, and espresso roast precedes a wine of amazing concentration, compelling intensity, and a tremendous finish of more than 60 seconds. Although expensive, readers must take into consideration the age of the vines as well as the limited production. This exquisite Shiraz is approachable, but promises to hit its peak in 3–5 years, and last for two decades. Kudos to proprietor Jonathan Malthus for his work in the Barossa.
