When it comes to Malbec, Argentina is King. It is in Argentina's climate with its warm, dry days and cool nights that Malbec absolutely shines as the rich, dark, velvety wine many have come to love. Malbec has put Argentina on the map with wine, and is one of the best red wine trends of the past decade.
Malbec is a fairly low-acidity red wine that's complex and sometimes features tasting notes of blackberry, dark cherry, plum, and olive. It's smooth, velvety mouthfeel draws in wine lovers from around the globe. And, like many of the other best red wines in the world, Malbec is full-bodied and pairs well with beef and other red meats.

RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2021 I love the ultra young and fleshy 2020 Malbec that in reality contains 10% Tannat and 5% Petit Verdot. It’s ripe without excess and was bottled after one-fourth of the volume spent eight months in oak barrels. So, the effect of the oak is not noticeable in the aromas or flavors, and the wine comes through as fruit-driven and juicy while still keeping the varietal profile. They produced no less than 720,000 bottles of this wine. It was bottled in September 2020.SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022 Offers notes of sandstone to the fine-grained cherry tart and dried raspberry flavors, which lengthen out with beefy hints in the midpalate. Shows light mocha accents on the finish. Drink now. 68,795 cases made, 15,000 cases imported.

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2021 The modern, clean and floral 2018 BenMarco Expresivo is a blend of 85% Malbec and 15% Cabernet Franc from Gualtallary with an élevage in barriques, 70% of them new, for 14 months. It’s only faintly oaky and reveals good freshness and fine-grained tannins. 60,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2019.
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021 Susana Balbo’s 2019 BenMarco Expresivo is 82% Malbec combined with 18% Cabernet Franc, both from the Uco Valley and was 70% aged in new barrels and the rest in used for 14 months. An intense purple in hue, the precise aromas include plum and blackcurrant with herbal notes and hints of jalapeño over a delicate bed of oak. In the mouth, it’s compact but juicy with a medium body and long-lasting, fruity flavor in which the finely grained tannins take charge to define a texture that stays delicate in spite of the overall vigor. A modern wine best left for at least a year. (Joaquín Hidalgo)

VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021 From Mendoza, the 2020 Malbec Felino was aged for eight months in 10% new oak. Purple in the glass, the nose presents gentle notes of violet alongside intense fruity aromas such as fresh plum and cherry. Growing juicy in the mouth after a dry beginning, the flow is broad with a velvety texture from the aging process and refined tannins before the vivid, fruity finish. (Joaquín Hidalgo)
RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2022 The new top-of-the-range 2021 Jardín de Hormigas Los Amantes was produced with organic grapes from plot number 15 in their Jardín Altamira property, 1.2 hectares where there are some 80 centimeters of topsoil rich in silt that gives the balance between meat and bones and then big granite rocks with limestone, the big bones. The big bones require a little more meat, so a little more soil… It fermented with 15% whole clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured in untoasted 3,500-liter French oak foudres for 15 months. It has 13.5% alcohol and keeps very good freshness and balance. This felt very different from the Appellation Altamira (which was also from a different vintage), more aromatic, with lots of flowers, with lots of layers and personality, which is impressive for vines planted in 2017. Place before age… It’s balanced and expressive, with very fine tannins and a dry finish. The place even before the variety... It’s elegant and ethereal with grip from the chalky tannins. It’s impressive how noble the variety is and how the young vines can produce a wine with this depth. SUPER ELEGANT. A great debut! 4,300 bottles were filled in May 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2022 The 2021 Pizzella Malbec is ripe without excess and shows more black than red fruit, and it’s juicy and velvety, dense and with fine tannins. It has a touch of vanilla that makes it very attractive and pleasant. (Luis Gutiérrez)
JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, May 3, 2022 A fragrant nose of dark cherries, redcurrants, plums and sweet spices. Medium body with ripe tannins. It’s fruity, creamy and juicy with a round, ripe finish. Drink or hold.
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2021 I tasted two vintages of the estate Malbec, of which the 2019 Malbec feels fresher and more elegant, with expressive aromas of berries and aromatic herbs, a spicy twist but nicely integrated and in the background. This has a medium-bodied palate with soft tannins and great balance.VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021 The 2019 Malbec Mendel comes from a vineyard first planted in 1928 in Mayor Drummond, Luján de Cuyo and was aged for 12 months in barrels, 1/3 of them new. A vivid purple in the glass, the perfumed nose offers aromas of prune and ripe fruit with sweet spices, white pepper, cedar and other notes from the aging process. In the mouth, it’s terse with an expansive, tacky palate, good freshness and ripe, fruity flavors. A classical, well-rounded Mendoza red.JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, April 8, 2021 Attractive black-cherry, plum, light green-tobacco and stem aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, layered and delicious. Drink or hold.
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021 The 2019 Malbec Norton Reserva from Luján de Cuyo spent 12 months aging in French barrels. An intense purple in hue. The nose offers notes ranging from ripe plum to prunes along with white pepper and aromas from the aging process such as pencil box. Broad with sweet tannins, the flow is languorous but maintains an almost juicy freshness. A generally classical wine, the acidity is a modern touch.
