Zinfandel wine is one of the truly "American" wine sensations in the marketplace. Nowhere else in the world is the Zinfandel grape grown so extensively and with such success. And to narrow it down even further, the Zinfandel grape, which makes both Red Zinfandel and White Zinfandel wines, is grown primarily in California.
Red Zinfandel wine is typically bold in flavor, with a rich, lush texture, and typically high alcohol content. Among other things, Zinfandel pairs perfectly with barbecue (another American tradition).

SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022 Deeply structured and briary, with a mix of red and black fruit accented by licorice, dill and savory underbrush flavors. Finishes with medium-grained tannins. Zinfandel, Carignan, Petite Syrah, Alicante Bouschet and Mataro. Drink now through 2030. 8,900 cases made.VN9191 pts. - Vinous - May 2022 The 2020 Geyserville is quite soft in this vintage. Bright red-fleshed fruit, crushed flowers, cedar, spice and sweet pipe tobacco all grace this mid-weight edition of Geyserville. All things considered, the 2020 is nicely done.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 31, 2023 Spry and briary, this Zinfandel is fun to drink, with lively black cherry, licorice and dried sage flavors, which take on richness and cracked pepper accents toward zesty tannins. Drink now through 2031. 4,000 cases made. (Tim Fish)
JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/22/2021 The deep purple/ruby-hued 2019 Zinfandel Pagani Ranch comes from a site in the Sonoma Valley and is 90% Zinfandel, 6% Petit Sirah, and the rest Alicante Bouschet. Red plums, blueberries, blood orange, and candied violet notes all emerge from this beauty, which is medium to full-bodied and offers an ultra-fine texture, silky tannins, and a great finish. This is one impressive, satisfying Zinfandel to enjoy over the coming 7–8 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2022 Deeply structured but not weighty, showing black raspberry and blueberry flavors laced with bittersweet chocolate, green peppercorns and fruitcake spices that build tension toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2030. 3,990 cases made. (Tim Fish)
JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - May 21, 2020 A wine that always delivers, the 2018 Geyserville from Ridge comes all from a single vineyard in the Alexander Valley and checks in as 68% Zinfandel, 20% Carignane, 10% Petite Sirah, and the rest Alicante Bouschet. It has a big, cedary bouquet of red and black plums, sandalwood, potpourri, and Asian spices that develops and fills out nicely with time in the glass. This carries to a more medium-bodied Zinfandel that has wonderful purity of fruit, present yet ripe tannins, flawless balance, and a great, great finish. This structured yet ethereal example of this cuvée ranks with the finest vintages to date. Drink it any time over the coming 10–15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2020 Robust yet brooding, with multilayered black plum, licorice and Asian five-spice powder flavors that build richness toward big, briary tannins. Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet. Best from 2022 through 2030. 10,500 cases made.
VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023 The 2021 Bedrock Heritage Wine is a great expression of this site. Black cherry, chocolate, spice, leather and tobacco are front and center. This dark, virile Zinfandel-based field blend packs a serious punch. There’s plenty of detail and nuance behind all of that intensity. The 2021 is a big wine, but also less monolithic than some previous editions. There’s a bit more whole cluster in the 2021 than in the past, so perhaps that explains the wine’s nuance. The 2021 is one of the best wines I have ever tasted from the Bedrock vineyard, and I say that as someone who is not yet fully convinced of the potential here. (Antonio Galloni)SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2023 Bold and brooding, this Zin-based blend is a cornucopia of aromas and flavors, with deep blackberry, smoky anise, black pepper, clove and other dusky spice notes that build tension and structure toward broad-shouldered tannins. Hands off for now. Zinfandel, Carignan and Mataro. Best from 2024 through 2032. 800 cases made. (Tim Fish)
SP8787 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2022 Light on its feet and lively, this juicy Primitivo is an easy-drinking version, showing an appealing mix of black raspberry coulis, red licorice, tangerine, dried thyme and ground pepper. Drink now. 15,000 cases made, 5,000 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022 The 2019 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard is a gorgeous, wonderfully complete wine that shows why this site is so highly regarded. Red berry fruit, rose petal, leather, blood orange and spice open in a bouquet that is so compelling. Silky tannins wrap around a huge core of fruit as the Carlisle envelops every corner of the palate. Deep, layered and beautifully persistent, the Carlisle is wonderfully vivid from the very first taste. I loved it.SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2022 Impressively structured and richly styled, this vibrant version opens to deep raspberry and cherry flavors laced with licorice, sage and mint, building toward broad-shouldered tannins. Drink now through 2030. 696 cases made.

SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2021 Bold aromas of rose petal and orange blossom open to dynamic blackberry, licorice and smoked pepper flavors, building tension toward medium-grained tannins. Zinfandel, Carignan and Mataro. Drink now through 2030. 750 cases made.VN93+93+ pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021 The 2019 Bedrock Heritage Wine is a tough wine to read today. It is quite tannic and closed, but also does not appear to be quite as powerful or heavy as it can be, which in my view is a positive. Size and weight come so naturally at Bedrock that the wines can at times be a little too much of a good thing. I hope to have a chance to taste the 2019 again in the future, as it is in no mood to show its cards today. (Antonio Galloni)JD92+92+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/22/2021 Coming from a site that was originally planted in the 1850s (the vines for this release date back to the 1890s), the 2019 The Bedrock Heritage offers a medium ruby/plum color as well as a beautifully complex nose of cherries, red plums, lavender, herbes de Provence, and pepper. Quite structured and tannic, it’s medium-bodied, has a rounded, layered texture, good acidity, and outstanding length. It’s a beautiful, complex, elegant wine that needs 2–3 years of bottle age and should have 10–12 years of prime drinking. (Jeb Dunnuck)

A deep, layered wine, the 2019 shows all of the allure of the year in its open-knit, opulent personality. Super ripe red cherry/plum fruit, spice, wild flowers and blood orange are front and center in this bold, luscious Zinfandel. Drink now through 2032. 2,044 cases made. (Tim Fish)JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/21/2023 A deep and youthful ruby with a hint of purple, the 2021 Zinfandel Russian River Valley is ripe and juicy with boysenberry, mocha, and pine. Full-bodied, it lends a nice balance of ripe and tart fruit on the palate, with a classic feel to its fine tannins underneath a sheen of silkiness. It is ripe and rounded, with notable freshness and a good finish. Drink it over the next few years. (Audrey Frick)
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2015 One of the more overt, voluptuous Zinfandels in the range, the 2013 Giuseppe & Luisa blossoms in the glass with effortless grace. Dried dark cherries, plums, tobacco, leather and smoke. The flavors are dark, bold and racy, yet the 2013 retains its mid-weight personality and plenty of nuance. Layers of flavor build to the creamy, layered finish.SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2015 Bold and jammy, but surprisingly light-footed. Aromas of ripe raspberry and spiced cinnamon open to lush flavors of black cherry, grilled anise and pepper. Drink now through 2020. 664 cases made.
VN94+94+ pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023 The 2021 Geyserville hits the palate with a burst of dark red/purplish fruit, sweet spice, lavender, chocolate, dried herbs and American oak. I would be in no rush to open the 2021, as it is clearly an infant at this stage. The blend is 76% Zinfandel, 16% Carignane, 6% Petite Syrah and 2% Alicante Bouschet. The 2021 is a powerhouse, that much is pretty clear. (Antonio Galloni)SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2023 Tightly focused and briary, this blend offers density without weight. Presents plum and blueberry flavors accented by dill and green peppercorn as this builds tension toward medium-grained tannins. Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet. Drink now through 2032. 9,000 cases made. (Tim Fish)
