VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2018 The 2015 Teyssier is a fabulous introduction to Jonathan Maltus’s wines. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, mocha, new leather and dark spice, along with the wine’s natural lushness, give the Teyssier much of its immediacy and allure. Flamboyant an inviting, with impeccable balance, the 2015 has so much to offer, including a very appealing proposition of price and availability. The blend is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc.RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Apr 2018 Medium to deep ruby-purple colored, the 2015 Teyssier (a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc) gives up lovely black and red cherries notions with cinnamon stick, fragrant earth and potpourri nuances. Medium-bodied and fresh with a satiny texture, it’s earthy and elegant in the mouth with a perfumed finish. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Jul 2018 Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Zinfandel St. Peter’s Church Vineyard has a nose of raspberry pie, blueberry compote and preserved plums with underlying hints of scorched earth, Indian spices, tobacco and stewed tea. Big, concentrated and full-bodied in the mouth, it has a racy line and a lovely plush texture, finishing with a compelling herbal lift. 165 cases were made.
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2018 The 2015 Syrah Tepusquet Vineyard is the most impressive wine in the range today. Powerful, dense and explosive, the 2015 pulses with both energy. An exotic mélange of inky dark fruit, creme de cassis, lavender, black pepper and spice builds as this striking wine shows off its pedigree.JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - October 15, 2018 The only Syrah I was able to taste from this estate was the 2015 Syrah Tepusquet. It’s a smoky, meaty, barbecue-scented beauty that has lots of pepper and dark fruits, medium to full body, a ripe, sexy texture, and a great finish. It has ample character and will keep for 5–6 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2018 The 2015 Clos Margalaine was superb from barrel, but is less impressive from bottle. Why? There is plenty of texture and depth, but my impression is that the 2015 may have spent too much time in oak and would have retained more freshness had it been bottled earlier. Even so, there is plenty of sumptuousness to the sweet red cherry, pomegranate, mint and rose petal flavors. The blend is 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. Tasted three times.
VN8888 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2017 The 2015 Zinfandel Grist, from a rugged hillside site in Dry Creek, has plenty of character, but it also comes across as rustic and rough around the edges, especially in its tannin profile. There is no shortage of depth to the black cherry, plum and lavender flavors. It will be interesting to see if the winemaking team can coax a little more finesse from this site in future vintages.
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2021 Brilliant ruby. Energetic, spice- and smoke-accented black raspberry and candied cherry aromas are complemented by suggestions of rose oil, coconut and cured tobacco. Youthfully chewy and focused on entry, offering concentrated red and dark berry, cherry cola and candied licorice flavors that deepen steadily with air. Floral pastille and oak spice notes linger on the impressively long, smoke-tinged finish, which shows excellent clarity and polished tannins. (Josh Raynolds)RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jul 2022 The 2015 Viña Arana Gran Reserva, which was a Reserva until 2011, wants to showcase a new Gran Reserva style that combines freshness and joy with intensity, sophistication and aging potential through a blend of Tempranillo from Rodezno with 5% Graciano from Fuenmayor. The grapes were put through optical sorting and fermented in stainless steel for 19 days, and the wine matured in American oak barrels for three years with rackings every six months. This is the classical Haro style of Rioja Claret. They found that some special vintages of this wine behaved like a Gran Reserva, with a style that was closer to their 904. So, they wanted to make this consistent from vintage to vintage, a new a style of Gran Reserva, easier to understand than the 904 or 890. From 2012, the wine changes and they replaced the Mazuelo that was used in the past with Graciano, which they think is a grape very apt for Gran Reserva wines. I saw the wine with the 2015 vintage, a more developed nose with tertiary notes and some funkiness. They don’t want this to be the small brother of 904. It’s the entry level for Gran Reserva wines, for a younger generation; it’s fresher and less complex but with good aging potential. In a year when they don’t produce 904, the grapes would go to Viña Arana. The palate reveals quite a lot of tannin and a dry finish. 80,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2019. JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021 Perfumed aromas of black fruit, graphite, violets, pine cones and sandalwood. It’s full-bodied with firm, polished tannins. Structured and rich with a chalky texture. Deliciously layered and concentrated with a long, flavorful finish. A blend 49% carignan, 22% malbec, 15% cabernet sauvignon and 14% syrah. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drink or hold.VN9292 pts. - Vinous - May 2021 The 2015 Aliara is a blend of 46% Carignan, 33% Malbec, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Syrah from Cauquenes, Maule, aged for up to 22 months in French oak. Garnet-red in the glass. The nose of cigar box, black currant and layers of jam and chocolate comes encased in woody flavors. Fine-grained tannins and juicy freshness dominate in the mouth, while the oak returns at the end. Cleansing and flavorsome, this is a serious, expressive wine. (Joaquín Hidalgo)
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2019 Hay, freshly cut grass and loam aromas segue to a core of cherry that pulls this together. The sweet fruit handles the burly tannins well, ending in a cascade of eucalyptus and tobacco notes. Best from 2023 through 2043. 920 cases made.
