ST93+93+? pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2014 Bright red-ruby. Sexy aromas of blackberry, violet and licorice, along with a musky soil-driven nuance. Rich, thick and sweet; wonderfully plush and seamless for a Bordeaux blend from this cool year, with a texture of liquid silk. Already very showy, this superb wine’s serious building tannins promise a slow evolution in bottle. A great expression of this outstanding vineyard, and seemingly even richer in the early going than the superb 2010 was a year ago.RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 25th Jun 2014 One of the top wines in the vintage, the 2011 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard (52% Cabernet Franc and 48% Merlot that spent 21 months in 35% new French oak) offers thrilling amounts of fruit and texture, with full-bodied richness, excellent mid-palate depth and sweet tannin. Loaded with both red and black currant fruit, dried flowers, damp earth and hints of meatiness, it can be consumed anytime over the coming 10–12 years.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Oct 2020 Dark ruby with purple highlights, the 2017 Pollard Vineyard Red Wine offers seductive aromas of blackberry essence, dark cherry, juicy plum, turned earth and worn leather with subtle baking spices. A blend of 44% Cabernet Franc, 37% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine is medium-bodied and shows impeccable balance with a clearly defined framework of fruit. The expression is velvety on the palate, with a delicate but persistent finish. It’s a beautiful wine!VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2019 Bright, moderately saturated ruby-red. A faint note of musky reduction to the aromas of dark raspberry, flowers, mint and milk chocolate. Suave and smooth on entry, then easygoing and fine-grained in the mid-palate, with enticing floral lift to the moderately dense black and blue fruit and licorice flavors. I find this wine a bit more harmonious and filled in than the ’16 version, but then these vines are still very young (this ’17 was from just the fourth leaf). Suaver and longer than the 2016 release, with the tannins better supported by fruit. Not a sweet style, but this blend will give early pleasure. The Pollard wines are gently priced for serious Washington reds.
