Rich, pliant and explosive, the 2021 possesses captivating inner perfume, vivid fruit and exceptional balance. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, mint, spice, mocha and a kiss of new oak all race across the palate. An alluring, captivating wine, the Pagani Ranch is total sensuality. As good as the 2021 is—and it is very good—it could have been legendary. That is especially evident when looking at wines from Bedrock and Old Hill, two of the other grand crus of this stretch of vineyards in Sonoma Valley. Deep and beautifully layered, the 2021 is seamless, nuanced and just insanely complete from the very first taste. Absolutely nothing is out of place. Yields were very low, which seems to have simply concentrated the black cherry and plum flavors and ripened the tannins perfectly, all while maintaining the bright acid profile that is such a signature of this historic field blend site. The 2021 is one of the very finest wines I have tasted from Bedrock. It is destined to become a classic. VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023 The 2021 Bedrock Heritage Wine is a great expression of this site. Black cherry, chocolate, spice, leather and tobacco are front and center. This dark, virile Zinfandel-based field blend packs a serious punch. There’s plenty of detail and nuance behind all of that intensity. The 2021 is a big wine, but also less monolithic than some previous editions. There’s a bit more whole cluster in the 2021 than in the past, so perhaps that explains the wine’s nuance. The 2021 is one of the best wines I have ever tasted from the Bedrock vineyard, and I say that as someone who is not yet fully convinced of the potential here. RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022 The exact proportions and origins of the 2020 Zinfandel Blend 8 Years in the Desert are deliberately kept fuzzy by the winery, but the wine does include Petite Sirah, Syrah and Barbera in addition to Zin. Aged in roughly half new oak, the nose brings an overlay of vanilla to a core of ripe blackberries. Full-bodied and open-knit, it adds briary, herbal notes on the palate, plus a bit of cracked pepper. Soft, dusty tannins mark the finish, along with hints of mocha and bittersweet chocolate. It is quite tannic and closed, but also does not appear to be quite as powerful or heavy as it can be, which in my view is a positive. Size and weight come so naturally at Bedrock that the wines can at times be a little too much of a good thing. I hope to have a chance to taste the 2019 again in the future, as it is in no mood to show its cards today. Quite structured and tannic, it’s medium-bodied, has a rounded, layered texture, good acidity, and outstanding length. It’s a beautiful, complex, elegant wine that needs 2–3 years of bottle age and should have 10–12 years of prime drinking. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Today, my impression is of a tightly wound, powerful red that is going to need time to come together. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate, spice and mint are all pushed forward, but the 2014 needs time. The only question is how much. This is a distinctly red fruit-toned version of the Carlisle.RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2015 From Mike Officer’s home vineyard, the 2014 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard (planted in 1927) tips the scales at a whopping 14.9% alcohol, but hides it beneath a cascade of beautiful briary, raspberry, black cherry and blackcurrant fruit. It’s full-bodied, deliciously pure, ripe and a total hedonistic turn-on. Drink it over the next 5–6 years.
