RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Jun 2023 The organic Arianna Occhipinti 2020 Sicilia Nero d’Avola Siccagno offers a pretty medley of cherry, dark fruit and a touch of clove. The wine shows background hints of cola, black olive and baked plum. There is a lot of lifted fruit in this wine that leads to a punchy, lively style overall. It is fluid in personality but also lean in texture. (Monica Larner)
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2022 The 2020 Bianco Contrade SM is a varietal Grillo with a wild yet alluring bouquet that reminds me more of a spiced, citrus-inspired, herbal tea than wine. Then mix in some smoke, a hint of underbrush and viola. It’s soft-textured and savory to the core, with flinty young peach motivated by brisk acids and hints of sour lemon. This leaves a staining of minerality, along with notes of ginger and tangerine, while tapering off with impressive length and concentration. Wow, I’m finding it hard to put this glass down. This is the first vintage of the SM with a strikeout on the label, as Occhipinti can not legally add the Contrada name “Santa Margherita” to the label. The vines are planted in sandy, calcareous soils at 500 meters in Chiaramonte Gulfi, just north of Vittoria.
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Jun 2023 The 2020 Frappato Vino di Contrada BB shows a slightly more saturated hue with dark fruit flavors of black cherry and fresh plum. I like the impeccable balance of the BB (from the Contrada Bombolieri with sandy soils and stones), which is more accessible and primary next to the Contrada PT and without the earthy overtones you get in the Contrada FL. (Monica Larner)
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Jun 2023 The Arianna Occhipinti 2020 Frappato Vino di Contrada PT (made with old vine fruit in the Contrada Pettineo) has a unique bouquet that stands apart from the other wines in this series, especially in this warm and sunny vintage. There is a hint of purple plum, but the aromas are mostly focused on red fruit flavors with cassis and fresh cherry. I love the lively, punchy approach of this vibrant wine. It feels very much alive. (Monica Larner)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Jun 2023 Showing lots of varietal character, the 2021 Il Frappato reveals dusty red stone, wild berry and a hint of sweet apricot. The wine is firm and tense, yet it also manages an absolutely weightless approach that makes it so easy and fun to drink. It embraces a contemporary style that would pair with the healthy foods we want to eat today, with lots of vegetables and white meats. (Monica Larner)
JS9797 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, September 6, 2022 Aromas of stone, clay, orange peel, dried sage, baked red cherry and moss. Medium-to full-bodied with tense tannins that drive the palate and keep all of the complex fruit, mineral and herbal notes in line. So much to unpack. There’s depth, intensity and complexity, all in line with one another. Pine cone at the end. From organically grown grapes. Made from two parcels of ungrafted old vines in Contrada Calderara Sottana. Best from 2025.SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2023 A fresh, elegant and seamlessly knit red, with aromatic tea rose and anise hyssop notes, an expansive profile of pureed raspberry and cherry fruit, woodsy spices and a subtle underpinning of minerally smoke and stone. The lasting finish is firmed by fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2035. 245 cases made, 70 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)

WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2020 Fragrant and loaded with finesse, this opens with enticing aromas of Mediterranean brush, violet, crushed lemon thyme and star anise. On the savory, focused palate, notes of licorice, hazelnut and flinty mineral accent a juicy red berry core. Polished tannins and fresh acidity provide seamless support and balance. Drink 2021–2028.JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, November 17, 2020 Very complex aromas of dried berries and strawberries with orange peel, perfume and cherry. It’s full-to medium-bodied with a tight, linear palate and fine tannins, as well as zesty acidity. Give it time to open. Better after 2022.WS9494 pts. - Wine & Spirits - October 1, 2020 Contrada San Lorenzo’s soils, like those of Calderara Sottana, derive from Etna’s Ellittico eruption center, but San Lorenzo’s are deeper and less rocky. Those deep soils presented problems in the rain-soaked 2018 growing season, but strict selection at harvest yielded a dark-fruited wine, its plum and black-cherry flavors tinged with notes of orange zest and girded by warm, tarry undertones.VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2021 As the 2018 Etna Rosso San Lorenzo blows off a bit of youthful reduction, an inviting bouquet forms, mixing violets and roses with hints of white pepper and dusty strawberry. This is seamlessly soft and polished with medium weight, ushering in floral-tinged red and hints of blue fruit which give way to sweet herbal notes. Residual acids keep the expression remarkably fresh even as youthful tannins saturate deeply, leaving bitter notes of cranberry and cherry pits to linger. The 2018 San Lorenzo has the feel of a sleeping giant, requiring a few years of cellaring to truly awaken.SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 28, 2021 A lovely nose of spice and mineral transitions to flavors of crushed raspberry, dried mint and a hint of orange zest on the palate of this well-knit medium-bodied red trimmed by sleek tannins. It’s long and mouthwatering on the finish. Drink now through 2028. 10,000 cases made, 3,500 cases imported.

JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, July 19, 2023 This shows a very attractive, savory character with red cherries and raspberries, accompanied with dried summer herbs, candied orange and red spices. Dry earth, too. Medium- to full-bodied. Very even and seamless tannin structure. Refined and polished with a dusty earthiness that leads to a dry, delicate finish. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
