While the woven basket that surrounds that bottle of Chianti is iconic, it is by no means the only Italian wine worth having with pasta and meatballs. Italian wines are excellent because their low acidity and lush body increase the ease with which they pair with any kind of food. The general rule is that any meal with a red sauce can match with an Italian red wine, but Italian white wines also make excellent pairings with chicken, fish, and even pizza.
Italy boasts some of the world's oldest vineyards, as well as some of the most dignified and respected estates in the wine world. Whether you're shopping for a bright, juicy Montepulciano to drink with pizza or a refined, aged Barolo for a five-star night, WineMadeEasy.com is your source for Italian wine at great prices.
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021 Super sticky here, giving you all you ask for in a quality Vin Santo. Toffee, dried fruit and nutty notes on the nose. Full, viscous feel on the palate with a twist of citrus that turns to salt on the finish. Long and delicious! Nicely done. Enjoy now or hold for as long as you like.WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2022 Made with dried Sangiovese (80%), Trebbiano (10%) and Malvasia Toscana (10%), this opens with aromas of candied orange zest, maple syrup and dried fig. The concentrated, smooth palate offers eucalyptus, honey, black cherry jam and toasted almond that carry on to the long finish.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2021 A deeply hued, golden sweetie that’s beautifully fragrant, with mouth-coating flavors of glazed apricot, candied ginger and salted caramel layered upon aromas of ground cardamom, orange blossom, incense and myrrh. Lightly mouthwatering and harmonious throughout, with a lasting, spiced finish. Drink now through 2028. 350 cases imported.
WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - This almost colorless vermouth holds a sweet, sugar-candy nose. The body is medium, and the palate, surprisingly enough, very, very dry with faint, but pleasing, herbal notes. The finish is very dry with notes of herbs and fruits.
WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2014 Rich, fruity and enticing, this sweet vermouth is warmed with notes of fig and dried cherries, and just faint hints of spiced gingerbread and bitter orange peel. Drinkable solo as an apéritif, or use it as a cocktail-mixing favorite.
WE90+90–95 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2002 Sunset-orange color. Savory bouquet is ripe and fruity through all sniffings. The stunningly elegant flavors marry ripe pear, roasted almond and apricot scents to cheese-like rancio. Finishes firmly and long. An opulent, plump style.
RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Aug 2019 This wine is dedicated to Roberto Ferrarini, the longtime consulting enologist who worked with Giuseppe Quintarelli and the Quintarelli family until his death in 2014. The beautiful 2007 Recioto della Valpolicella Classico A Roberto (packaged in a 375-millliter bottle) is a stunning and magical creation. The last vintage this estate made a Recioto was in 2004, and at the time of this tasting, there was no future vintage earmarked to follow this bottling. Those of you lucky enough to taste this bottle will be rewarded with carefully crafted aromas of plum and raisin with sweet baking spice, moist earth, campfire ash, fresh espresso and a touch of bitter chocolate. This wine was bottled in 2017 and therefore saw ten years of aging in a normal-sized barrique. The wine shows utter silkiness in terms of texture and is surprising light on its feet despite its 15.5% alcohol. This is a precious collectors’ bottle.VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2021 The 2007 Recioto della Valpolicella Classico A Roberto coats the glass with glycerol-like richness while displaying dusty dried flowers, incense, cloves, pine resin, quince and a lifting hint of camphor. It’s silky in texture yet enlivened by bright acidity, as ripe red fruits give way to hints of grilled orange, exotic brown spices and cocoa. While this is certainly sweet, clocking in at 65 grams per liter of residual sugar, it’s also wonderfully balanced and vibrant from start to finish, tapering off remarkably fresh and perfumed with a bitter twang of coffee and dark chocolate. The 2007 is a thrill-ride rendition of Quintarelli Recioto, which may not last through long-term cellaring, but it will wow collectors over the next 10 to 15 years. The Recioto A Roberto is the only wine in the portfolio that undergoes spontaneous fermentation, and it is also matured completely in small oak barrels. As this was the favorite wine and passion project of Roberto Ferrarini, Giuseppe Quintarelli’s enologist who passed in 2014, the family decided to dedicate the 2007 in his honor.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2021 Intense, this sweet style delivers honey, caramel, roasted almond and spice aromas and flavors, leaving a light layer of tannins on the tactile finish. Drink now through 2030. 350 cases made, 200 cases imported.VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2021 The 2015 Vinsanto del Chianti Classico offers lovely density in an understated, mid-weight style that is quite appealing. Spice, orange peel, hazelnut, dried flowers and light caramel notes all grace this creamy Vin Santo from Volpaia. The 2015 is very nicely done.
