Grenache, a spicy wine with versatility, is one of the world’s most widely planted red grape varieties, yet one of the least recognized by many consumers. We're on a mission to change that, since we love Grenache wines and think that you will, too.
Because of the late-ripening nature of Grenache, it is almost exclusively grown in warmer, arid, and Mediterranean-like climates. It's a featured grape in Spain (where it goes by the name "Garnacha") and in France's Southern Rhone wines, and can also be found in Australia, the Italian island of Sardinia (where it is called "Cannonau"), and warmer climate areas in California and Washington state. There are even several outstanding versions of Grenache rosé out there, which shouldn't be ignored.

JD90+90–92 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/28/2018 The old vine cuvée is the 2017 Rasteau Vieilles Vignes, based on 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre that’s brought up in older barrels. Blackberries, toasted spice, smoked earth and licorice notes all flow to a rich, powerful, concentrated Rasteau that has ripe, present tannins and a great finish. It’s certainly going to be an outstanding wine. (Jeb Dunnuck)WE8787 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2020 Densely concentrated plum and black cherry flavors are muted by savory notes of crushed earth and tobacco and in this full-bodied blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. It’s a rounded, open-knit wine that’s showing glimpses of maturity, so it’s best to enjoy now–2024. (Anna Lee C. WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2021 The aromas fascinate in notes of raspberry, thistle, cranberry, blueberry, herbs and coffee. Plump, palate-coating flavors follow. There’s a lovely texture and purity to this wine, while it remains light on its feet. Raspberry and blueberry notes linger on the finish.JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/6/2021 Lots of juicy berry fruits, briary herbs, pepper, and violet notes emerge from the 2019 Sinister Hand, Washington State’s take on a terrific Côtes du Rhône. Medium-bodied, balanced, and just straight- up delicious, drink this charming, balanced Syrah blend (there’s 18% each of Grenache and Mourvèdre with smaller amounts other varieties) over the coming 4–6 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
WE9898 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2021 This Grenache is sourced from the sandy soils of two prized vineyards, La Janasse and La Crau. Redolent of rose petals, smoky tea leaves and black cherry, the deeply penetrating wine pulsates through a long, long finish. Matured 12 months in large-format wood, it’s pure in fruit and satiny on the palate. Stunning young, the wine should gain complexity through at least 2040 and hold much further still.JD96+96–99 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 10/6/2020 The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Chaupin looks to be a magical wine in the making. It has everything you could want from this region as well as from Grenache. Revealing a medium ruby/purple, almost opaque color as well as a gorgeous bouquet of kirsch liqueur, wild strawberries, loamy soil, peppery garrigue, and flowers, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless, multi-dimensional texture, ultra-fine tannins, and a blockbuster of a finish. This is one of those incredible wines that delivers serious intensity and richness yet stays weightless and is as elegant as they come. It’s going to be approachable with just 2–3 years of bottle age yet will have 20 years or more of longevity.
WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2022 A light-red hue in the glass, this blend of 42% Grenache, 31% Cinsault, 24% Syrah, 2% Petite Sirah and 1% Counoise starts with aromas of cherry, grenadine, mace, star anise and barrel toast. The palate shows that rugged chaparral spice that made this blend world-famous, alongside dark-raspberry, boysenberry, roasted fennel and anise flavors.
WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2021 Matured entirely in concrete, this fresh-faced, exuberant red fills the palate with fleshy streaks of preserved red plum and red currant flavors. A velvet textured but crisply balanced blend of 70% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 10% Cinsault, it’s irresistible for its youthful, juicy fruit profile but elevated too by hints of crushed basalt and a singe of black pepper on the finish. Drink now–2027 at least.JD90+90–92 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 10/6/2020 The young vine release from this great estate, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Clos Du Calvaire has a beautiful Grenache nose of ripe strawberries and raspberries as well as notes of spice-box, garrigue, and flowers. This feminine, medium-bodied, seamless 2019 is balanced, lengthy, and already impossible to resist. (Jeb Dunnuck)
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2022 Very dry aromas of dried blood sausage, muddled plum and cracked pepper make for an extremely savory nose on this bottling. The cracked pepper spice sails through the sip, where dried meat and very dark purple-fruit flavors also arise. (Matt Kettmann)
